Why can’t we live in a kinder, more respectful world? Call me naive, but I’m living in hope that it will all come good in the end. The baddies will get their comeuppance and the rest of us will ride off into the sunset. The End

The Trump administration would like you to stop watching the BBC and watch GB News instead.

A few more clues about why that might be...

OK, let me explain:
The Government (& UK economy) is damaged by leaks to hostile media.
Media pay (one way or another) leakers.
The way to identify a leaker is to tell everyone suspected a slightly different story, & see which one emerges.
The way to sow lack of trust in sources is to misinform them
There is a small subset of pro-Starmer ultras on here who either genuinely don’t understand that budget stories *are directly briefed out by the Treasury, with permission* or pretend not to know that. And so they claim the plans never existed, haven’t changed, etc. It is maddening, and dumb as fuck.

Sorry James, this is just not true. I ran comms at HMT and we *never* briefed out a specific measure weeks before a Budget. It’s a recipe for chaos. Most of these stories are educated guesswork or sometimes briefed by other departments trying to influence the Budget decision making process.

So seems Labour’s budget plans have changed because the OBR forecasts have improved e.g. the U.K. economy has improved.

This is positive news.

Too many rushed out negative hot takes this morning.

Exactly this. There is of course a danger that letting speculation run can cause problems. But no minister ever said income tax would rise. Journalism is becoming a real shitshow now and even the few decent correspondents get dragged down. And in this toxic environment, its so irresponsible.

Farage earns more than any other MP for NOT being an MP. He says it’s “obviously sad” that part of his constituency is the most deprived area in England.
But everything he’s ever done, said and wanted has made sure of it.
This is the whole country if he gets into power.

Message to the Media:

Try as hard as you might the government cannot be changed until there’s an election. Get on with it and shut the hell up and let them get on with rebuilding our country. Don’t like it go get a different job and let someone who likes our country do yours.

So many of you predicted this.

The media make a claim about rising income tax in budget to break the manifesto promise.

Then you said the media would claim it is not going to happen & the gov has u-turned due to pressure.

You predicted it & now it's happened.

We need to ignore media speculation!

One-third of American museums have lost government grants or contracts since Trump took office, according to a new survey by the American Alliance of Museums.

This is all part of a larger plan by Trump — one where he can control not just what we do, but what we think.

While the media obess over gossip and a rumour mill of their own creation, the government get on with the job.

A job which, over time, people will see the positive impact from, regardless of the media.

A quick reminder for all who suffered the wilful neglect of history & government lessons in their school years:

It took 783 days from the Watergate burglary for Nixon to resign, & in between he was re-elected.

In that time, evidence was uncovered & released bit-by-bit, lost, & leaked.
