Meet one of the most exciting new voices in African speculative fiction! The Zambian writer’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in Asimov’s, Omenana, Flame Tree Press, Ubwali Literary Magazine, WTBAP, and more.

White people need to understand that minimizing and empathizing with your racist friends serves to gaslight and oppress their victims.

And that "something else" you usually assume is going on quickly turns against the victim to determine why they "deserved" to get hate crimed.
Dunno if I'm alone in this but I've noticed that when I encounter someone who is actually, for real, straightforwardly racist... I tend to assume there's something else going on? Like surely the answer isn't simply "they hate these people." Like they're trying to be edgy or performative.

#nr African-American Gothic: Screams From Shadowed Places by Maisha L Wester. An illuminating text that is still pleasant to read. I'm learning so much! Among other things, the realization that a lot of Kenyan fiction novels are gothic in nature. Kikuyu Gothic is not a joke, its but a way of life!

Each of these dots on the map has its own history, and I intend to cover all of them

Cities/towns may have been the first complex societies, long before kingdoms and empires.
Any discussion of African history would be incomplete without them

DHS confirmed it has stopped automatically storing officials' text messages.

Instead, officials are supposed to take a screenshot, send that to their work email, download it onto their work computer and run a text-recognition program on it. Every time.

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (an independent nonprofit, not the statutory body) now estimates that up to 3,000 people might have been killed by the police and armed forces in post election violence in Tanzania.
The situation in Tanzania is worse than we realised. Some journalists have managed to smuggle information out of the country. Current death toll is close to 1,000 by some reports. A harshly enforced curfew is in place.

I have (what I think is) a really specific rec. request - looking for a secondary world fantasy with a menstruating character? Maybe MG/YA? Or a teenage MC dealing with their first period in a secondary world? It doesn't have to be the whole text but it has to be addressed (at least 2 paragraphs)
