#nr African-American Gothic: Screams From Shadowed Places by Maisha L Wester. An illuminating text that is still pleasant to read. I'm learning so much! Among other things, the realization that a lot of Kenyan fiction novels are gothic in nature. Kikuyu Gothic is not a joke, its but a way of life!

Excited to announce I'll be at Seattle WorldCon (virtually!)

I'll be moderating the panel Translation, Language Barriers & The Limits of The Canon featuring @izom-chisom.bsky.social & @formerlykevin.bsky.social as the panelists.

Super excited as this is WTBAP's first WorldCon appearance!

Our president kept harping on about "well paying digital jobs for the youth, well paying digital jobs for the youth"... I'm starting to think he just meant Hasbara...

I too was not a fan of the self-congratulatory tone of The New York Times piece on African publishing

My Sister, The Serial Killer - Oyinkan Braithwaite

I have three sisters. You have to understand!

Japanese Colour Harmony Dictionary: Traditional Colours of Japan - Teruko Sakurai

A bit of a deviation from the list but still! It's ideally for graphic designers but I use it to pick out my nail colours most of the time

Clay's Ark - Octavia Butler

I love and have read every single one of Butler's books & short stories but Clay's Ark stands out the most to me. It's her most brutal work especially with regards to consent & non-consent.

Between Two Fires - Christopher Buehlman

I haven't read anything like this before and haven't found anything like it after! A mishmash of historical fiction, epic grimdark fantasy and abject horror all taking place in a Dante-esque version of Hell on Earth 👹 so good!

Freshwater - Akwaeke Emezi

Their best book in my opinion. If you know, you know; and if you don't, you need to fix that immediately.

Detransition, Baby - Torrey Peters

Reese is a trans woman who has always dreamed of motherhood. Ames, her ex girlfriend now detransitioned is facing fatherhood with his boss & lover, and decides for reasons to involve Reese in the parenting process (messssss but so spicy)

Tell Me I'm Worthless - Alison Rumfitt

A violently disturbing and queer haunted house story. Three women enter a haunted house, only two come out.
