Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

One funny side effect of the snow storm is that it's proved how many of these roads you could turn into one land and it would be totally fine. Obviously more people are staying off the roads so it's not exact, but I feel like Baltimore should actually use these instances as real world test cases.

I ride my bike to work, and Monday night walked down 25th Street where I live (in the middle of the street because sidewalks weren't clear, including one I shoveled in front of a row of vacants), and saw that this was the bike lane. Glad I can telework but many others can't!
Hey Zohran would you like to be mayor of baltimore as well? we have some bike lanes that need plowing and also every crosswalk in the core has a 5 ft glacier preventing anyone who actually lives here from crossing the street because suburban motorists are more important than actual residents i guess

Forgot to post last night, but loved going to @beyondvideo.bsky.social and seeing how slammed it was by people getting physical media in preparation for the snow storm. It was fun seeing so many people browsing together! Excited to settle into stuff that's been on my list, plus new finds!

2025 was the best year for our city's shared mobility program to date.

As a city, we took over 3 million rides during the year, reaching over 3.9 million miles covered on shared e-bikes and scooters. This is nearly double the rides Baltimore took in 2024!

Christmas movie about a guy who accidentally chugs Santa’s bone juice while on vacation in Italy and everyone’s mad at him but he develops the power to know what gifts everybody wants.
And then at the end it turns out Santa’s bone juice was in a different cup and he had the magic in him all along
The bones of Santa have been leaking liquid for 1,700 years.

In the last month in Baltimore alone, a cop is indicted for a political blackmail scheme, a cop is indicted for trying to murder someone with a police car, and the *commander* of a district is under criminal investigation. Beating a dead horse, but what more needs to happen to stop funding them?
Update: The commander of the Eastern District is among the officers suspended amid a criminal investigation in San Francisco www.thebanner.com/community/cr...

Very happy to have a local newspaper doing great journalism for the city. When I ran a housing program I was shocked by how many checks I mailed out to New York (not to either company mentioned here). Crossing my fingers the city and state can mitigate this fallout

New poll: The vast majority of NYC Dem primary voters agree with Mamdani’s Israel positions, even arresting Bibi.

57% say they’d be less likely to support incumbent Dems who don’t endorse Mamdani. That includes Schumer and Jeffries right now. www.semafor.com/article/07/2...

They just showed Alcatraz in the hallway before the match and he was putting on sunscreen. Obviously athletes must wear sunscreen but I truly never thought about it, and it's created so many questions. Do they reapply? Do they also use coppertone sport? I need to know

On the bus downtown and the bus lane is just filled with cars and all the buses are delayed. Obviously no traffic enforcement in sight, even during peak hours. People complain the buses don't work, drive their cars, then block the bus with their cars. Should've just risked biking in the storm!
July 8, 2025 at 8:20 PM
It's hard because I do want Dems to use procedural gimmicks to block legislation, but also less than one hour after "the longest house speech in history" the bill passed so I don't really get it
July 3, 2025 at 6:44 PM
This should be a national story! This is incredible! Especially as people (including mainstream Dems) are freaking out about Mamdani's efforts to divert resources from police to his Department of Community Safety. Not a 1-1 correlation, but some similar ideas
The previous first half low was 77, in 1977. Even adjusting for the massive population loss since then, this is the lowest murder rate since 1978 when William Donald Schaefer was mayor

Instead of worrying about all the horrible things in the world, here are my top 10 movies of the 21st century (didn't actually submit since I share an NYT account). This list would almost certainly change if I made it 6 months from now or 6 months ago

It honestly boggles the mind how many times we are explicitly shown how much cops just blatantly lie and yet we never hold their profession accountable. The NYT editorial board just ran a hit piece about how we've been too mean to cops!

Loved reading this entire thread. My idea would be to ban cars from certain areas (avenue in Hampden, fells, etc.) from Friday at 5pm through Sunday at 10pm. Traveled to Vietnam last year and a bunch of cities did this and it was awesome. Let the people have the streets!
Do you have an off-the-wall idea for how to make Baltimore City and/or the surrounding area better, about any topic, feasibility be damned?

Here is one I have: there should be a series of weekend shuttles to and from our three large reservoirs from rail stations (Owings Mills subway to Liberty, Lutherville or Timonium light rail to Loch Raven, Hunt Valley light rail to Prettyboy) so residents can reach hiking and recreation points

Should at minimum be a daily MTA regional bus line from Baltimore to Frederick, Hagerstown, and Cumberland and one from Baltimore to Annapolis, Easton, Cambridge, Salisbury, and Ocean City. MARC expansion would be tough but we could spin up some NJT-style state connector bus routes easily
Someone's gotta figure out a way to run a train from Hagerstown to Baltimore on a daily basis, so I don't have to drive every time I want to go to an Orioles game.
