I had a crazy idea this week... We had leftover rice, and some Oxtail... So I attempted to make Oxtail fried rice.
Not the best fried rice I've made, tbh. Too much moisture and I think the seasoning will need tweaks... but the concept has legs 👀

There definitely seems to be a tendency among large portions of readers (and gamers) these days to want the minutiae of a system. For gamers, that's primarily so they know how to exploit it, I suppose.

Personally I blame D&D (and TTRPGs in general) for training a couple of generations of readers to expect magic to be systematized and quantified. (It's a useful feature for game mechanics, but wildly less so for fiction.)
