If we had a functional legislature impeachment proceedings would have started roughly ten frames after the first time invading a NATO ally was floated

The questions on my mind are not about whether this is a sinking ship, but how people on a state, municipal, and individual level can build rafts

The words "aristocracy" and "meritocracy" are fairly similar in modern usage, but one's a 20th-century neologism and you can tell because of the same mixed-roots thing people make a big show of complaining about in "polyamory"

Science is defined by its methodology, but what defines pseudoscience isn't just lack of methodological rigor. Pseudoscience engages in mimicry to try to appear to be science. In this way, it fails both at being science and being magic, which doesn't explain itself

I really hope the backlash is over the top. I want every aspect of the reactionary culture of this decade and its predecessor in the last to be cringe to every living person. I want homeschooling to be side-eyed. I want alpha male posturing to get you investigated. The Red Scare sucked but it worked

Okay but this is how programs should work from my perspective. Do one thing well. I actually think that if you fix all the corruption, concentration, and government coercion people currently dislike about the internet, you end up with nothing remotely like the overwrought "products" called SaaS
(2/n) A feature solves one problem well — even delightfully well. But features get copied easily or absorbed into larger products. They have no distribution or adoption model. If your whole thing can become a pane in someone else's app, it's a feature.

It's bizarre that multiple people within this agency both expect people to know about the killing of Renee Good and take away from it any lesson besides "these people will kill you for nothing and feel no remorse." There is no rational response to that reality that involves obeying their orders
it's incredible how if you put this entire dialog into the Left Behind series, it would basically work, but instead it's just IRL MN

we have been way too tolerant of cowards: we should be demanding that far more people in power who claim to be against the murderous evil of MAGA meet the standard currently being demonstrated by Jerome Fucking Powell
Jerome Powell: "This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation."

As a taxpayer, I would actually prefer that you *not* continue to fund the fascist military machine that is being used to kill and kidnap people from our communities.

It is an illustrative exercise to read the frothing hatred toward "leftists", "liberals", "commies", etc, replacing those labels with "women (who don't obey me)". Not a complete picture of what is meant, of course, but illustrative for the same reason as the use of this phrase
As every woman who has ever lived knows if a man spits the word fucking bitch at you it's pure fury at lack of control...other words come for different reasons.

Fucking bitch ALWAYS means you didn't listen to me / defer to my power and I am enraged and want to make you with power and violence.

Maybe we could start by having housing, pension, and access to medical care not be gambling? Maybe we could also not have the vast overwhelming majority of what we call "the economy" be based on a massive prediction market on the projected values of fractional companies? Casino economy is status quo
can we stop turning everything into gambling?

Law and order and small government is when the government sends incompetent feds to shoot random people and then makes up shit about the victims to retroactively justify it, right?

Verbal fluency is a very poor heuristic for assessing knowledge, honesty, expertise, or reasoning. Like the vice president or your favorite LLM, I can pretty easily talk for a long time about events I'm making up on the spot, or topics I know nothing about. You need a better test than fluency

I have serious doubts that a critical and willing participant in the current administration's surveillance state would act meaningfully against that same faction's propaganda machinery
Honestly think that if you pulled twitter from the App Store and shut it down it would fuck up the entire right wing ecosystem at that point. Like the entire media apparatus would fall apart.

Even if you're in the habit of ignoring distant atrocities, know that foreign policy turns of this kind are portents of insane domestic crackdowns justified by security theater. Take it from a GWOT-era kid, everyone needs to fight this tooth and nail, even if you only care about yourself

Even minor variations in cognitive and sensory equipment would probably require some acclimation if you were to try to suddenly switch bodies. Even if you frequent mediums or avatars, the things you interact with may not be able to recognize you immediately. Be prepared to hear "new crone, who dis?"

It's important to have an open mind and hear people out in good faith

Of course, it's also important to, once you've heard someone out, be able to actually think through their position, perhaps concluding that it's without merit

A person who claims the label "moderate" is inherently untrustworthy
