Man. 2025, huh? I had some pretty big, bad things happen, which earned me a lot of burnout. My health is deteriorating, and I can’t afford…

I think Morrowind is the most interesting game in the series. Replaying it every odd year and always enjoying it's unique flavour.

"Go back and play Morrowind and tell me that’s the game you want to play again," said Bruce Nesmith, who worked for Bethesda for over 17 years, adding that playing The Elder Scrolls 3 "would not stand the test of time." https://bit.ly/4q4GoKh

Right, so video game company stocks are crashing because the power of AI supposedly renders them irrelevant. Meanwhile, Microsoft and Oracle stocks are crashing because they spent too much on AI and the market knows they'll never make a return. The economy is absolutely hosed

First time I am doing a proper pull-up program. This is Dan John's recommendation for doing the Russian program (3 days a week instead of 5 and starting with low reps but added weight). With the 15kg extra that is 120kg under the bar so I get to brag a little for a no-spring-chicken desk jockey.

This piece from Sir Terry Pratchett's "Night Watch" book. I didn't know a composer had set it to music.

The book is a gut punch. This piece is a gut punch. And right now? Yeah.

I cannot stress enough that the absolute biggest reason that Harry Potter is such a cultural icon in the first place has nothing to do with the quality of the books

but with Scholastic's change in publishing practices in the late 90s/early 00s

oh and also Rowling is a huge bigot, so there's that
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Younger generations “have fallen out of love with Harry Potter because they have fallen out of love with the worldview the series represents,” writes Louise Perry. “Which is to say that young people have fallen out of love with liberalism.”

I love that stuff and I love doing that stuff even today and will haggle with my colleagues to let me do some of those. These things are part of a game's identity more than they get sometimes credited for and letting a mediocrity machine do it would be very demoralising.
We will never get another AAA MINMO or GODLLA: Size Is Problem because this type of work is first on the chopping block in the genAI era. Was checking about RE9, and found an interview with Capcom about using it to concept background/environmental objects. This is my favorite shit so it's tragic

Cancel. Genuinely. Cancel. A rejection at the border is a permanent mark against entry, forever.

If you insist, follow dangerous territory protocols: know your embassy details, make sure someone knows your travel details, and have funds for emergency legal, health, and departure expenditures.

The original argument for banning TikTok was data privacy concerns.

Yet US social media and video apps collected the exact some data, but they were never threatened with a ban.

A real solution would have been to ban / regulate them all.

But it was always about who controlled / monetized TikTok.
TikTok is now under US ownership and their new ToS reads like a guide to giving fascists everything they need to put you on a list.

They’re collecting information about immigration status, citizenship, sexual orientation, whether you’re trans or non binary and physical or mental disabilities.

This isn't even a Trump thing btw.

The United States has had an embargo on the people of Cuba for 66 years with the aim to economically strangle and starve them into submission. But they have persevered.

What was their crime?

Refusing to allow the US to control their economy and industry.

Speaking as someone who's worked with Capcom, stays in touch with its people, and has, shall we say, professional room to maneuver, I'll just say that contrary to what the technical director in the IGN article asserts, I know for a *fact* many Capcom employees are VEHEMENTLY against this direction.
