Taking asylum seekers jewellery is a hardy Labour trope.

In 1999 Mike O’Brien MP immigration minister proposed legislation to take asylum seekers valuables worth over £2,000.

Asked if that meant taking asylum seekers jewellery in committee he said, ‘that is exactly what we will do’

I shouldn’t be, but I am genuinely shocked at quite how low this govt is willing to go. Utterly shameful stuff.
Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

Congratulations to Labour who have won the coveted Tommy Robinson endorsement. Excited for sensibles to explain to me why I have to vote for the people enacting actual fascist policy.

Big week for yr old pal KD. Officially unemployed after taking voluntary redundancy, and got my ADHD diagnosis. Naturally, I’m freaking out. But also relieved and excited. But also terrified.

I don't think it is callous of me to observe that it is weird to see the PM of the UK, the leader of the Opposition of the UK, and the ex UK PM all putting out solemn and devastated tweets about the death of a podcaster who is only a big name if you're constantly on Twitter

Okay so petitions don't do much usually, but this is a good one I think. It raises a narrow point of law, it would make a huge difference to intersex Britons, and most legislation intended to be anti-trans is also directly anti-intersex. It's low at the mo. You can help!
Petition: Add intersex to the Equality Act as a protected characteristic
We want the government to make sex variations a protected characteristic under the Equality Act.

And the Universal Credit bill has passed. Some of the sickest people in the country will suffer needlessly more now. There is no justification, no excuse. Just ugly, cruel choices by ministers too cowardly to tax the wealthy rather than cut the poor. A shameful day for Starmer’s Labour.

right but ‘death to the IDF’ wasn’t an internal matter for Glastonbury
Keir Starmer's spokesman asked if the Government plans to remain on X, given its AI bot has been making antisemitic comments and endorsing Hitler, replies that this is an "internal" matter for the company

We have had a report saying two women walking up to a protest today at BAe Samlesbury were stopped by Lancashire Police and advised to remove their t-shirts that say 'Free Palestine', as it may "breach the proscription order".

And so it begins.

interesting to see how much more coverage here we're getting of a chant at a music festival than the IDF being ordered to shoot and murder people in Gaza who are seeking aid!
IDF soldiers have now themselves admitted they have been ordered to murder aid-seekers in Gaza.

Truly an atrocity built on atrocity.
