the concern comes from anyone who remembers people who fell in love with Obama in 08 and then sat out the 10, 12, and 14 elections for basically this reason. It's the double-edged sword of winning by appealing to hope and emotions.
Who has suggested this? I would love to see specific examples of anyone with this expectation?
Anyone expecting Mamdani to achieve a utopian urban paradise overnight is dangerously naive. That’s not how it works.

Stranger Things finale ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Coulda been worse but retroactively this season kinda makes the whole series worse knowing this is what they were leading up to.

Don’t feel bad for enjoying art, for enjoying your family and friends. It’s no sin to put on a record.

I’ll leave 2025 with that - happy new year all!

@dhla.me continues the annual tradition of year-in-review round-ups with some true gems. Put them on and stay strong. Thanks, David.
2025 in review: meaningful music for when things fall apart - CDM Create Digital Music
David Abravanel is back with an annual tradition: a year in music in review, with less-recognized releases and essentials alike. This isn't just a list for appearances, though -- it's, as always, pers...

In an annual tradition, I wrote way too much about 2025’s music and got it in right before the bell on CDM.

Keep the heads up.

why are there rarely articles written about liberals in red state urban centers (e.g. Salt Lake City) being gerrymandered into some rural conservative representative?

Had a great discussion with @throttleclark.bsky.social about his excellent album Steep Stims, the Access Virus, finding "friendly parasites" in music-making, and the benefits of friction.

You know how scammers supposedly make their scams look sloppy and unprofessional on purpose, so they don't accidentally hook smart people who'll waste their time by pulling out later and/or go to the police?

Well, it seems to be increasingly common in "legit" businesses too.
One of the pervasive themes in betting ads seems to be contempt for their audience.

Much as I love hearing “Human Cannonball” in an opportunity to find a new audience, there’s no way Mike was weird (scary) as opposed to weird (nerd) enough to dig the Butthole Surfers c. Locust Abortion Technician.

Could have had it come from punk commune Kali?

1/ late night extra to going back through Ken Downie's work with @theblackdog.bsky.social

I'd always wondered why the Hebrew letter דלת (dalet) was spelled out on the front cover of 2005 album Silenced.

Glad to see the lesser-known Gang of Four albums getting their due, especially this one - embracing industrial noise + some surprisingly tender moments.

First ever vinyl issue sounding great and featuring some excellent cover and inner sleeve art.
