Genuinely wondering on this:

Lot of conversations lately with fellow TUs who *are* opting to use gen. ai (as distinct from any closed loop AAC etc).

Reasons appear to span administrative convenience, fending off over-burdened workloads, to the frustrating 'it exists & I wanna'.

Very taken by this c. 1530 painting of the cloth market in s'Hertogenbosch. The (anonymous) artist seems to have heard of perspective, but not quite to have got the hang of it. Apparently it was commissioned by the cloth-sellers guild, and Hieronymus Bosch lives in the 7th house from the right.

Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

While giving my talk on Crime & Punishment last night it occurred to me what a great source the witness statements found in the Quarter Sessions records are for the voices of 'ordinary' people. It's not often you get to hear them, particularly when it comes to 19th Century working class women.

Technically the threshold for "bomb cyclogenesis" of an Atlantic storm is a 21mb drop over a 24 hour period, at our latitude of 50°N.

The pressure here has dropped 24 mb in 11 hours, from 730am. And it's still going down.

Today has included a handful of folks who *do* know better, emailing vs quick call.

...& an *eye* clinic, who even though I asked them not to text me since I can't *SEE* texts, decline to stop "because the full address & info is in there". 🙄

Streaming is, mostly, unprofitable and destroyed the entire entertainment industry's revenue streams. So much so that the most profitable companies, Netflix and Disney, are about as profitable now as Paramount was ten to fifteen years ago

The hilarity -

Themself is renewing with Family Carers Ireland this morning.
Woman on the phone was having a mare with her headset the poor love (which is always prime for comedy).

They got to the point where they ask 'What affects your cared for?'
We'd pre-discussed what we'd share.
