Hi, new followers!

You may know me under other names (none dead but most of them sleeping.) I do online community - I've worked in MMOs, at Metafilter (as restless_nomad) and currently do PA work for SF writers. (DM me for rates!)

Stand by for cat pics and rants about the internet. Welcome!

The main damage I walked away from game dev with is that I enthusiastically read patch notes and roadmap posts about MMOs that I no longer play.

We are going to keep donating money for as long as you all keep buying jewelry.

... Viv has added more jewelry because you have been so generous in supporting our neighbors and friends in Minnesota. 😄 I'm really thrilled. Keep going, and we will too.
Because you've been so generous I've had to restock the shop! Everything's still 25% off through 1/24. I'll donate that 25% off to one of the organizations at www.standwithminnesota.com, and @byzantienne.bsky.social will match it dollar for dollar. Go check it out!

Viv has put all of her gorgeous jewelry shop on sale to raise funds for Minneapolis mutual aid.

I will match whatever she raises. All the money will go to organizations listed at www.standwithminnesota.com.

it's a small thing we can do to help a community we love, but it's a thing.
Bleeding Hart Studio is back with a store-wide sale/fundraiser for Minneapolis mutual aid!

Everything including 5 all-new necklaces in www.etsy.com/shop/Bleedin... is 25% off until 1/24. I'll donate that 25% off to at least one of the organizations at www.standwithminnesota.com --

So many grand hopes for 2026. So few that I can put into words without violating Bluesky's community guidelines.

I would love to claim some bit of Arthuriana, or The Dark is Rising, or even Narnia, but honestly this was my very first love.

A-fucking-men. I kinda doubt the people who make this joke have ever heard anything but their radio singles

Same thing a decade earlier with jokes about Dave Matthews Band. I would love to have a critical discussion of them! But "that band is lame" ain't it
All the jokes about Coldplay are kind of getting up my ass. Not because I love Coldplay that much, but "Coldplay is bad" has been a hack take for like 30 years. It's one of those things people without any real sense of critical taste feel like they have cover to say.
First two Coldplay albums are good as hell by the way. Next two have some very good songs as well. 👨‍⚖️

@rahaeli.bsky.social Would you mind passing along the name of your spine surgeon? My wife is looking for options for her EDS-related neck fuckery.

Batman and Robin. I love camp Batman and I don't care who knows it.
What movie did you really like that everyone else didn't?

One of mine's the first Suicide Squad.

Man I love the recorder.
Today in “Dudes Rock”:

A dude playing Dire Straits’s “Sultans of Swing” guitar solo on…a recorder.

I read this in one much-too-late-at-night sitting and it's absolutely delightful. Funny, sapphic, with an eldritch horror aesthetic but it's really structured more like a cozy mystery.

In case you missed the end of the year news, multiple DAW titles claimed the title of ‘Best Books of 2025’ from different sources! If you haven’t read these books yet, get them now and read them before 2025 comes to an end!

The threatening nature of AI being dropped by its evangelists is, and always was, a sales pitch aimed at the people who had money to invest. Now that that phase is drying up, and the tech requires end users, they now need the support of the people they alienated with that same pitch.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

I have successfully threaded the 30-year-old new-in-box sewing machine that I acquired from my mother-in-law. I was thoroughly daunted at first but the instructions pretty much worked! Next time, I trim the fabric for the curtains I need to hem and use the scraps to learn to tension the thread.

While I don't have strong attachments to some of these as Thanksgiving dishes (no ham for us, no mac & cheese, and... rolls? really? they're... traditional?) green bean casserole is the one I personally dislike, won't touch, and wouldn't miss.
with charity and goodwill, i must here part ways with rolls.

Due to a _very_ quirky meat share guy, we got a turkey a month for an entire year. My wife got _really, really good_ at roasting turkeys. It takes practice! (And brining)
I am afraid this take is just a result of the fact that a lot of people who aren't good at cooking try to do something technical exactly once a year. Turkey *is* good. You just have to do more than "put it in the oven and cross your fingers".

I showed up early for the zombie invasion of Trinsic and drank a couple ales with one of the members of the top RP guild on the shard.

Eight years later, I had a job interview with, it turned out, Captain Sagan Adai. Who remembered the conversation.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

@byzantienne.bsky.social I have an idea for our next 4th street fundraiser
"Before I left the NYC Conflicts of Interest Board back in 2022, I created (along with Dan Iwrey and Rob Casimir) what might be the greatest municipal ethics-law-based D&D one-shot module ever conceived… or at the very least the ONLY municipal ethics-law-based D&D one-shot module ever conceived."
