That is exactly how Brexit happened—with a ton of other misinformation, at least partially funded from the outside, resulting in a disaster for Britain. I don’t believe for a minute Albertans want to separate. I do believe modern misinformation campaigns are effective in misleading people.
The separatist movement in Alberta is being fueled to a great degree by people encouraging Albertans to “vote for separation to send a message to those in power (Ottawa) and get us a better deal…but don’t worry, we won’t actually separate.”
