The rewards for being clever are meager and cleverness is no guarantee you’ll be right either.
“George Coe, why does that name sound so familiar…” I thought to myself before making a loud and profane exclamation

Not me I’m constantly running out of cumin
America might be the only country on the planet where most every home cook will frequently end up with a pantry full of staple seasonings from the rest of the world, but that you personally will use infrequently. Some people would regard that as bad for some reason
why are we like this in america

the Westminster winner's full name is ConnQuest Best of Both Worlds and I don't think it's a Popstar reference based on the breeder's website but also what if it was

Recently rewatched rewatched “The Arsenal of Freedom” and:

1. Geordi pronounced T’su’s (24th century Wade-Giles?) first name as “Lee Anne”

2. At one point she moves her head in such a way that her hairdo looks like it’s being blown back, like the explosion sent a shockwave through the viewer
Nice! I just remember the actors complaining about season 1 tng chairs being way too reclined!

Prokofiev’s first piano concerto feels like it was composed in an earlier century than the rest (which I guess it was, in a Hobsbawm sense)

Dad’s side: Easier place to be a refugee than Beirut or Athens
Mom’s side: Assumed there’d be more/warmer opportunities for blacksmithing than in Finnmark
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?
Mine: religious nuttery & primogeniture

I have done this accidentally with a couple of other movies but for the first time ever I saw someone do intentional cosplay to a film today (Ryan O’Neal in The Driver, which is both a deep cut but also *just* over the line of “I’m wearing this normally” plausible deniability).
So when I first saw Taxi Driver in my early twenties and (somehow) went in almost totally blank, not realizing that young Robert de Niro looked *a lot* like me and that I was almost doing unintentional cosplay going into the theater.

Fear not, it's just sculptor Howard Ball in a VW towing one of his fiberglass mammoths to be installed at the La Brea Tar Pits.

The example that I would use is Showa Era Totalitarianism and Yukio Mishima. The antithesis—and I’m being very serious about this—is Godzilla Minus One.
