This was the reason my mum gave me for being really shitty and homophobic when I came out and, parents, if you picture your child's entire future and get disappointed if they don't turn out how you want you need to understand how very *yours* that problem is.
She explained to me that *of course* she had nothing against trans people, but she'd always known [child's name] as a boy and "That's just not the life I'd pictured for him."

I am a trans ally but this goes beyond that into basic acknowledgement of reality. You feel uncomfortable sharing a space with a trans person specifically cos they’re trans? That is something you need to sort.
