Lover of popular music but always wanting to find out more. That golden period between 1978 and 1985 is where my heart lies but always willing to try something else.

I'm thinking of doing a Monkees Almanac in 2026. Documenting anniversaries of all things Monkee. Something to do and an opportunity for me to learn more about one of my favourite bands, certainly the band I've loved for the longest time. Stuff like this from Christmas 1968

If Martin Lewis stopped shouting at 100mph and cramming too much info into one show, the vulnerable and hard of hearing may more easily digest his excellent advice. As it is I’m listening to Pink Floyd through my headphones while Mrs Dude frantically takes notes. Slow down man!

The most lib possible Brit quip is "everything started going wrong when Bowie died" and the ten year anniversary is this weekend so BRACE YOURSELF. It's WAY more libbed up than "everything was great when the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony was on".

On a tangent I watched Sherlock Holmes "The Solitary Cyclist" last night. Jeremy Brett as Holmes applying Queensbury rules in a country public house to dispatch the South African bounder with the enormous tache is a TV highlight I doubt will be bettered this year.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but as a kid I always regarded Mike as the least funny Monkee. His dry, sardonic humour flew way over my stupid head. Mike gets the most laughs from me now, and I'm impressed by how he and Peter - the non-actors - are so natural on screen. No wonder they got the gig.

Also, some peculiar music choices in S1. The dreadful Davy-sung Laugh crops up twice unbidden, and Peter's horrendous novelty Your Auntie Grizelda is practically a staple. @outonbluesix.bsky.social and I touch upon that - and so much more! - in this podcast.

As well as the '60s Batman TV series, I'm also doing a Monkees re-watch. They compliment each other, for obvious reasons. One thing that's surprised me about S1 of the latter is, despite being more conventional than the trippy S2, it's still quite meta. They're already poking fun at the formula.

My very favourite Talk Talk song. Probably in my top 5 of all time. Everything about it is perfect and contains a couple of those goosebump moments very few songs have. There's an "everything's alright" where Hollis finds a pitch or note or tone that hits my dopamine button like a hammer.

A lot think this album came out in 2024 not 2025 being a 2 part consecutive season album.
Seems to have been its downfall that it had never been done before.
For me personally it’s the most original album I’ve ever been part of.
It’s for long dark winter nights.
Try it.
