Lover of popular music but always wanting to find out more. That golden period between 1978 and 1985 is where my heart lies but always willing to try something else.

Being given access to Justin Currie's Tremolo Diaries has been a privilege. I just hope my review does it justice. Thanks to @peteselby.bsky.social for trusting me with it. @newmodernbooks.bsky.social

I realise I'm a little odd. Aren't we all. My overwhelming need to see Michael Smith succeed at darts is irrational even for me.

Day 11

90s Nick Heyward

On the upcoming 4 cd Epic and Creation Years release Tangled is given 2 CDs so prolific was Nick at this time. This didn't make the original album such was the quality. Sounding like Blur doing The Kinks

This is how you do it. Fabulous and will make me go back and listen to a couple of tracks again.

If a whole article on Hot Chocolate feels a bit too much then can I ask you for 4 minutes to watch this video of the band looking fantastic doing Brother Louie. A song about a mixed race relationship in 1973 that spares no one. Remarkable.

One of the reasons society is in such deep shit is that not enough people know how good the Hot Chocolate/Mickie Most records are.

If you're looking at this and thinking "Hot Chocolate Dave?" Please consider the first part that covers Cicero Park and the truly astonishing single Brother Louie. You won't hear a more remarkable thing today, this week or maybe even this year.

Doing this Toppermost was a fabulous trip down memory lane uncovering some incredible material among the hits. Lots about Errol's trousers and their effect on my mum's knitting too....

90s Nick Heyward

Ordinary People

From Monday To Sunday was a bridge between 80s pop and 90s rockier sound. This is classic Nick Heyward that would have been at home on North Of A Miracle

If you read the extract below and purchase this book either tonight or tomorrow, and you are in the UK, do let me know and I will send you - for free - a postcard of this fabulous map my dad drew of the place where it is set.

I’ll trust you’re not lying.

Blackwell’s do free delivery, btw.

This is fabulous, a highlight in a great book.
I've removed the paywall permanently from this piece, which is a chapter from my novel Villager, told entirely in the form of an online village message board. If you like it, you'll probably like the book. If you don't, you won't...

The Village Message Board
Its authenticity was discredited because of his reputation, but also because he was quick with gin at the time and wearing an item of knitwear back to front.

On remembrance day I remember my old man. He didn't die during his time in Singapore in WW2. I do wonder what he left behind though. He was a great dad, better than I've been, despite the memories he must have carried. I'll watch this many times today and think of him.

It's like someone got all the best bits of all the great strikers and built Erling Haaland. That was like watching a young Jimmy Greaves. He has it all. #Haaland
