3 years ago I decided to listen to 12 McCartney/Wings albums in 12 months as I'd done with Bowie. I managed 6. McCartney inspired so many of my favourites but I've never quite got him. Band On The Run seems to be in the news. Here's what I thought on first listen

When you drive past his gaudy pink ex property it reeks of wrong. The park is beautiful ( I know, I know but it is and full of wildlife and ancient trees) his ex abode is an eyesore. If they're serious make it a community hub there's a woeful lack of a day centres in RBWM which is abhorrent.

Honestly I was just going to The Post Office. It wasn't my fault it was temporarily closed and I had half an hour to kill. I didn't mean to go to the record shop and buy two gorgeous 12" singles by The Blow Monkeys and Yello featuring Billy Mackenzie. Honestly it just happened...

With a nod to @whatafuckingrecord.bsky.social here's a magical one that's 35 years old today. Released in a fancy 10" box. Justin's lyrics and air of melancholy didn't connect with a public who collectively shrugged. This was 1990. It is of course wonderful in a way that only del Amitri records are.

For me this upcoming HMV vinyl release is the perfect accompaniment to The Tremolo Diaries. Each song taking on a whole new poignancy capped off by the heart rending Baby, You Survived. These songs, chosen by Justin, in that context become something very special indeed.

The latest #ArtistFave15 finishes tonight / tomorrow. The response to The Jimi Hendrix Experience has been relatively huge compared to other artists I've chosen. It also reminded me what monster of an artist he was and that for me he never bettered his time with The Experience. 1/2
