Separating the art from the artist is an intellectual exercise, not a get-out-of-shit-free card. You can't just stamp a man as "separated from the art" and move on. It's a useful tool for thinking about these situations, but the fact is these situations suck and continue to suck.
"can we separate the art from the artist," blargh, dunno, uhh, sigh. I get that some like exploring that, and maybe this is just from being asked that 2000 times, but it's lowkey a way of centering the abuser IMO. YMMV but overall i've come to regard that question in a very Admiral Acbkar way:

What I think sticks with me about Sal Buscema’s death is, while I think he was a titan of the medium, he was also a working artist, and at the same time I think his work belongs in museums. It speaks directly to the disconnect between popular/sequential art and the work we consider worthy of display

A giant in the industry he co-created Nebula, Spider-Woman, and many others and had long runs on Hulk (10 years) and Spectacular Spider-Man (8 years). His recognizable hand helped shape the Marvel Universe. Thank you for everything, Sal.
