I've been away b/c too many social media accounts but I can't bring myself to delete this here. But I'm not making a "happy" post.

My grandma passed away Sunday (19th) morning & I am needing help with expenses. Any $ helps as well as sharing around your social circles:

My maternal sister isn't on social media of any kind. But today is February 1st and she is officially 30 years old. Despite my deep feelings about some aspects of her life, I am so very glad that she exists in the world. And I also feel really old...so does my mom, lol

@karidru.bsky.social I don't think I need to apologize but because my brain space has not been super great the last month, I feel like I need to apologize for whatever the veins of conversation that have been happening this last little bit because I feel like it's all quite nonsensical

And please, PLEASE let us not forget that time in 2023 when Karen Smith was elected President of the school board in Bucks County, Pa and swore her oath on a stack of banned books. The most gangsta oath ever! Just brilliant. www.edweek.org/leadership/t...
This School Board President Took Her Oath on a Stack of Contested Books. Here's Why

Our Constitution (Article VI) expressly forbids any “religious tests” for holding public office, so it would be impossible for a Bible or any other religious book to be “required” for swearing in.

The idea is to have the officeholder take an oath that is meaningful them with the highest level of allegiance & promise. You can take an oath or simply “affirm,” just as witnesses in court can “affirm” rather than swear on a bible.

Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

I won a contest to see (solo) Chris Cornell perform at the opening of the Hard Rock Cafe, here in Vegas & explicitly didn't approach any celebrity that was at the opening; and there were some NAMES from the music industry.
Please quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous.

I was visiting with family in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the same time that Mother Theresa was there visiting her Missionaries of Charity. The bishop held a Mass for her at the church where I was baptized. I didn't go.
Catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads, but they shifted the service along the platform because a scene from THE OUTLAWS was being shot where it would usually come in. The scene featured Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, but my train came before they shot it so I didn't see either of 'em.

There are soooooooo many I could write that book people seem to think I have in me. I'd invite more "villains" over than heroes...and I mean villains, not "bad guys"...those are 2 distinct camps for me (even if they intersect sometimes)
Name a hero character you would never invite to dinner.

The correlation between companies named after the Tolkien legendarium and their CEO/Founder being a chittering skinwalker fingering his own taint at the idea of draining the planet of all its resources and then fucking off to a sealed dome in New Zealand while everyone else suffers is extremely high

Anyone watch all the Downton Abbey Films? I was finally able to watch them on Prime, including the newest one from 2025. I feel sad that it's all over for like realsies but the entire property is just written, acted, costumed, historic, and everything so delightfully wonderful.

Peter Jackson....simply for his Tolkien films...

Narrowing that down is hard but my go to is IT since I'm still severely coulrophobic & spend active brain cells pretending that's not Tim Curry. In all fairness to my mom, I firmly believe it was probably an accident because the other "questionable" things we always watched together.
Name 1 movie from your childhood you were way too young to watch.

Many of them already don't pay personal taxes because they take out low-interest loans with their portfolios for spending money, and technically that's debt, not income, and not taxable. But yes, there are many ways for the very rich to become tax-efficient, even when/if a wealth tax is instituted.
The only way this becomes a serious concern if these billionaires' accountants and tax attys can't come up with some loop hole or leverage the tax code to decrease their tax bill.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

I'm bad at remembering the specifics of these performancs even though my brain will have a little ping in the back of my head. But one clear option emerges: Viggo Mortensen as The Devil/Lucifer near the end of The Prophecy.
Fav film performance with under ten minutes on camera?

I don't have a specific one but a lot of my repeats are from the LOTR trilogy, Monty Python (especially the Holy Grail), & The Princess Bride
Name your fav film quote.

I'm going to presume you're meaning proper villain & not "antagonist who's just a bad guy". (There are specific differences between these two & it's irritating they get conflated so much by media).

That all said, Prince Nuada Silverlance from Hellboy 2
Name your most relatable villain
