This is a lovely use of data and visualisation and a wake up call for those who still seem to think Twitter isn't a pernicious platform with questionable motives.
Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

The thing about all this Itch had no choice handwringing is that it reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how corporate culture works.

Visa and Mastercard have caved to Collective Shout because they believe the reputational threat is a real risk.

They need to be shown the alternative is worse.

You don’t have to like, approve of, or engage with porn and nsfw work to see how right wing extremists are using fear and stigma around smut to ban queer people from public life, define “good” sex as only between married people for procreation, and otherwise further force white supremacy on everyone

Creating an imprint solely for male authors will not magically get men reading literary fiction again. You're locking the barn door after the horse is long gone. Your enemy is not women; your enemy is decades of educational decline and the profound cultural dominance of visual media.

I've already reposted a few bits from this, but seriously, read the whole thread. AI doesn't save work; it either increases it, or abdicates it entirely because you no longer give a shit about truth, fairness, and accuracy.
Okay, a lot of people are expressing outrage about this, and I also feel outrage about this, but since everyone else has already expressed my feelings for me, I'm going to put on my Teacher of Analytical Thinking Pants and point out something important.

We're all struggling right now. Collectively, our mental health isn't exactly great. But separate your catharsis and self-soothing from your *advocacy.* Think about what you're putting out into the public sphere, and be deliberate about venting/soothing in private. Not where we all can see it.

This is actually vital. Your plan for surviving a horrifying event can't be "consume every word of every news story, read people despairposting and speculating on your phone for hours, then go tell the group chat you're freaking the fuck out about the bad thing for more hours" or you will McLose It
look, I’m not saying there aren’t horrors. just that you can have a little treat along with the horrors too.
