My feature on how musicians deal with the American medical system is here, with artists detailing their struggles to get decent care for cancer, gender-affirming care, chronic illnesses, substance abuse, and catastrophic injuries. This one is important to me, so please take a few mins to read it!

CMJ and all the indie venues, when the city felt like a playground for seeing live music. The Hifi jukebox and other bars of that ilk, with good tunes and dirt cheap beer so you only needed to a few 20s in your pocket.
I'm not going to read the NYT story but I do want to hear what other people would put in their "Lost New York" takes, mine would include Dr Zizmor ads and the free transfer between the Broadway G/Lorimer JMZ stops

Healthcare is a human right. With the New York Health Act, we’ll end premiums, co-pays, and deductibles — for good. Single-payer healthcare for all New Yorkers.

I know it’s easy to poke holes in Catholic anything, but for those of a certain age who grew up in it, this is a big ass deal. Leo rocks.
For most of the last two thousand years I'd have advised strongly against visiting a Catholic priest's "mancave" but this guy is putting together a heck of a jersey collection.

I'm reading Paper of Wreckage, an oral history of the New York Post, and came across Mike Vaccaro reminiscing about the time in 2003 when he brutally zinged then Mets GM Steve Phillips.

Famously, what people loved most about the Biden era was being told what they were experiencing at the grocery store was not actually happening.
Andrew Cuomo getting a ticket for illegally parking his "good luck truck" in a bike lane after New Yorkers handed him his whole ass at the polls *again* is just divine, cosmic stuff. you couldn't write a cleaner ending hellgatenyc.com/andrew-cuomo...

"If our customer base can no longer afford to live in the city, then we will not be able to stay open,” one NYC biz owner tells @inc.com “So seeing a Mamdani win is great for the average New Yorker, but it’s great for small businesses like mine.”

Has New York Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs resigned over Mamdani yet? I hope he hasn't, so that he can instead resign over *improving Republican margins over Trump 2024 in an anti-Republican wave election*. Trump won Nassau by just 4%—now look at this bloodbath
