A woman who lives in Dubai & never actually watches the BBC tells us who should be its next Director General.😳
She then tells us who should be chief of an NHS she never uses. Not only that, she comments about Govt. departments that don’t actually govern her!

SmallTalk TV! 😂

In these times of rancour & division, it’s comforting to find things on which we can all agree: Kent County Council, for example, really does provide a perfect illustration of how well Reform would run the country. I agree with Nigel!

If we're talking about bias, why do BBC politics programmes, from Politics Live to the Laura Kuennsberg Show, still always begin with a look at the newspaper front pages, which are overwhelmingly biased in one direction. Helps frame the entire news agenda and debate in their favour

Remember when we had the whole trendy thing about being authentic? 'Authentic leaders' & so on.

Well what if those people have actually been quietly sidelined, in favour of just a continued culture of 'alpha' types, people who will 'drive change' & 'deliver at pace' etc.

Was it all a bit of a con?

There are many health situations where we know stress makes things worse. And then it's all to easy to get stressed about getting stressed, so it spirals.

Telling people to 'not worry' is unhelpful.

Instead, normalise that many people would worry, & be available, listen, hear people's concerns.

When multi-professional working goes well, it makes such a difference for quality of care. It's not just about communicating diverse views (though obvsly this is extremely useful), it also creates a sense of coherence around a person's care- it gives a person confidence & a feeling of being held.

A paean to privatised public transport.

Today I had to go from Stockport to Salisbury. So I bought a ticket

Stockport > Bristol > Salisbury

The drive to Stockport should have taken 35 minutes. Satnav said it would take 2 hours, and I'd miss my train.

So I went to Macclesfield, where I found...

I was explaining 'empathy in healthcare' to my 10yos & why it matters- a conference I've just been to. They totally got it.

Then I said how it's harder to be empathic when you're very tired, stressed, or pressured, & there's a lot of that in healthcare. They totally got this too.

10yos get it...

Since the financial crash, the direction of travel for the far right across the West has only been in one direction - and that is up.

It’s wild that Britten’s ‘Ceremony of Carols’ was essentially the product of boredom; when returning to England in 1942 the only book he could find when the ship docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia was a book of medieval carols, so he spent the Atlantic crossing setting them to music
