From the Dutch Cycling Embassy team, thank you for a fantastic year bringing cycling to everyone, everywhere!

We're taking a break for the holiday season, and will be back in full swing in the new year to keep building cycling cities around the world.

See you in 2026!

Low-Traffic Neighbourhoods: what the latest evidence tells us. Traffic reduction also leads to lower noise levels. Research measuring sound before and after LTNs found that noise generally fell, with residents reporting calmer, more pleasant street environments

“In France, where such schemes are funded through local taxes and national legal barriers to building are much lower, things work even better. French cities build transport schemes, with their own money raised through higher local taxes, over twice as quickly and at below half the cost.”

Across London there are roadblock councils, standing in the way of any kind of cycling infrastructure ⛔

Why is the quality of towpaths reliant on charitable donations, when they are key everyday transport routes for thousands of people walking and cycling? They need to be funded properly. Will this change @heidialexander.bsky.social? They shouldn’t be avoided days after rainfall.

We're not reassured

One

Samson Leonard Biddle, 37, failed to stop for police, driving extremely dangerously. Eventually, tactical contact stopped him.

Upon being arrested, he refused to give a specimen.

You might not be terribly reassured to learn that he received just a 6-month suspended sentence and 4-year driving ban.

Our estimates off DfT data is London's 1.5 million cycled journeys daily now accounts for well over half of all cycle journeys made in England. That's an amazing end-of-year reflection alongside this ace @peterwalker99.bsky.social piece about what London & LCC included is getting so right...

Germany shifts over 2 million e-bikes every year. France: over 500,000.

Britain? It will be lucky to get to 150,000. Why?

Because people need to feel safe to cycle, and that requires serious and sustained government support, which has not been forthcoming.

Get better soon, enjoy a holiday !
No cycling for me for a while due to an accident. A motorcycle crashed into me while I was cycling home from work last week. I’m devastated and frustrated that I won’t be able to ride, but I know it’s time to take it easy, focus on recovery, and get back on two wheels as soon as I can.
