Painting of the Day. Saturday Market IV
> > www.artcameroon.com/saturday-mar...
It's a bright and sunny acrylic painting of women and girls carrying fruit through a tropical forest. It's Market Day, the highlight of the week, and everybody is eager to buy and sell.

One of the most underrated novels of all time I think. Like everybody talks about how annihilation changed their writing and it's a beautiful prose-soaked fever dream but the way the absurdity of bureaucracy butts up against it and grounds it in Authority elevates both books.

Plus it's a riot lmao
My most misunderstood novel and, yes, it's meant to be intensely funny. It's autobiographical--based on my day jobs working as a contractor for various agencies. Someone high up in the EPA at the time came to my DC reading for Authority in 2014 + told me it was both hilarious and extremely accurate.
i think authority by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social might be one of my fav books of all time. a soul-crushing character arc of devastating proportions. also a spy office comedy. also whitby is there!!!!! it literally gets better every time i come back to it
