We did this several times already in the US as signed exact english. Makaton in the US would be yet another opportunity for people to step on the autonomy of Deaf people.
This is a really interesting article about a horrifying distortion of sign language happening in the UK, and which its creators are now trying to export to other countries and their sign languages

Learn actual sign languages from Deaf people, not from hearing people making their own weird versions!
I will not fight with people on Threads about Makaton. I will not fight with people on Threads about Makaton. I will not thebaffler.com/outbursts/si...

I took the Monarca training, and have attended some MIRAC meetings. Do what you can, learn, and stay ready.
Re-upping this with a link that goes to the upcoming trainings in Longfellow, Kingfield and Cathedral Hill since Naomi's link was for an older training. monarcamn.org/training

I know there is a lot to doomscroll right now, but you need to plan some sort of offline activity and go do it.

Walking outside, going to a museum, cleaning your home, taking a nap, cooking some food, buying your favorite pastry; lots of options.

It'll feel better than more time on your phone.

Just how morally, ethically, intellectually bankrupt do you have to be to argue that 15-year-olds can sell sex but can’t affirm gender

Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

I moved to Minnesota in June 2023 during a day when the air smelled like a campfire. When I’ve asked longtime Minnesotans about the increasingly severe smoke during our summers, they all say it was never a problem until a few years ago. And wow, this graph has got the receipts.

Give a man a fish and someone with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about people getting free handouts. Teach a man to fish? Yeah, that person with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about that too.

like, why would any democrat compromise with the GOP right now? you have a once in a millennium upper hand. every member of trump’s admin who opened that file is complicit. go after them. open investigations. have hearings. say it on the news every night. do something other than roll over for once.

THIS IS BAD. It's true, states already struggle with basic special education issues. Effectively, IDEA enforcement will end in some places.

I know very little about construction permitting. Anyone know, is this already fully approved? Or would organizing people to contact (who?) or show up to meetings have potential to help keep this out of St Paul?

They're apparently doing this so they can dump more money into OpenAI.

When you're in a gold rush, sell your massive stake in the shovel factory so you can pour cash into the mine that loses more money annually than most industrialized nations spend on their militaries.
Japanese giant SoftBank said Tuesday it has sold its entire stake in tech giant Nvidia for $5.83 billion.

I reached out to federal delegation to get some answers on this project. It’s a surprise and a very unwelcome one.

No home for ICE and CBP in Saint Paul.
From a St Paul Dept of Safety and Inspections email: construction permit for a new $11m CBP building construction permit at 670 Bayfield Street next to the downtown StP airport. Note location right near the runways. "Great" place to deport from! @mollycoleman.bsky.social @melvincarter.bsky.social

I will hold you personally responsible for nearly doubling my already unaffordable health insurance premiums for the rest of my life and I will make sure that the financial ruination of millions of Americans is your permanent legacy, @schumer.senate.gov
If Republicans want to talk about long-term fixes to ACA affordability, Democrats are ready.

But in the meantime, doing nothing is derelict. People will go bankrupt, people will lose insurance, and people will get sicker.

Republicans cannot continue doing nothing.
