New York based musician who plays in the bands Cold Wrecks and The Duke of Surl. I talk too much about Star Trek.
Earlier this week I used all of my music connections and good will to see if my friend could be the new drummer for Alkaline Trio

In low tech music news, I sent a video of me playing bass unplugged to the songwriter, who sent me back a voice note of him singing the bass fill he wants me to play

I am picking Ron Funches for my Traitors fantasy team even though he blew it in that one roundtable. My loyalty to Ron Funches will not waiver.

it is your DUTY as a parent to be basic and cringe. if your child says "6-7" and you do not say, loud enough for their friends to hear, "8-9?", causing profound silence and intense discomfort, you are neglecting your responsibilities. being cool is for kids. your days of being laughed WITH are over

Last year my top album was Alkaline Trio and this year it's Lunger by Stay Inside. In general my favorite new music from this year was all made by people I've been playing with and listening to for a decade or more.

As a musician I feel that knowing my limits on the different instruments I play has helped me to embrace patterns that become a style. Limits aren't necessarily permanent, either. You can practice or learn a new technique or have a friend record a part or even use midi to program literally anything.
if you play a stringed instrument you have that kind of intimate material relationship with the concepts of vibration and tension, and the limits of what sounds fingers/hands/picks/bows can create matter and you would not produce better art by removing those limitations
