How to get into nature.

I had to wash out and repaint the scapulars and marginal coverts three times. Hugely relieved it worked out in the end. 🥲

The Last Aurochs
Digital Drawing. A stylized depiction of a female aurochs (Bos primigenius) lying in the grass, its head facing towards us. A few scattered trees are visible against the golden background. In the top left corner, there are the faint images of a few aurochs running leftward overlaying the background. They are drawn in a style similar to cave paintings. The individual drawn here is meant to depict the last recorded aurochs, a lone cow that lived in the Jaktorów forest in Poland. A herd had once been present there, but had dwindled in number until only one member was left. In 1627, the last recorded aurochs died.

First finished piece of 2026!
Aptly titled "Funk Breaker", I started this out as a study of the remnants of a Christmas decoration. I happened to see it on the floor as my Mother was taking them down and decided to draw it in this more graphical style as a way to end a months-long artist funk.
Digital drawing of a small conifer branch done with live reference, species unknown, in a simple, graphical style and a dark raw umber background. The drawing follows botanical illustration conventions with leaf insertion in the correct growth pattern (spiraling upward); needle-like leaf shape with a single central shaft, growing upwards at the base and outwards at the ends; growth nodules separating each section and woody texture. Four shades of green were used for the leaves, darker at the back and lighter at the front, and various shades of brown and grey for the branch.
