18/yo Paleo-art nerd aiming to be a paleontologist, my blood is replaced by ink. I'm really a fan of pseudosuchians, playing the piano, FNaF, anything Fujimoto writes and draws, and many other things. Btw: GET ME OUT OF VENEZUELA

Maybe i'll be someone's actual friend in 2026, happy new years to everyoneeee

I usually stick to echinoderms, but this insect was so stunning.

This is a Cretaceous aged Neuropterid insect, Hemerobidae sp.

happy #fossilfriday! this is copepteryx, a flightless seabird from the oligocene of japan. as a suliform, it was related to gannets, boobies, frigatebirds, and cormorants, though it and other plotopterids displayed remarkable convergence with the anatomy of penguins

Using high-resolution synchrotron μCT scans from the @esrf.fr, we were able to digitally segment each bone of the skulls (shown here in different colors), allowing their full anatomy to be studied in detail. (3/6)

Pratap Gurung captured this shot of the FABULOUS 🌈 Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus) or 'danphe,' the national bird of Nepal.

The amazing coloration is structural: photonic crystals act like a diffraction grating, turning sunlight into shimmering blues, reds, greens.
