There's a growing number of Queer Social Clubs that offer sober alternatives to the bars, from hiking to yoga to line dancing and soup. My first for "Big and Bright," @thebarbedwire.com's queer news section.

This question is central to the way I approach covering trans issues.
When folks write things designed to make you panic, you should take a breath and ask - is this designed to make me engage? Or is it actually trying to inform?

now PBS. congressional reporters using exact same language to jam the deal through on behalf of lawmakers, i guess?

it’s the job of the press to count votes and say if a bill has enough yeas. weird to launder this support through before it’s clear with NO sourcing info.

sloppy journalism.

About a decade ago there was a viral video of a trans woman in Turkey recording herself on her phone before she took her own life. Through all the tears for the minutes the video went on she kept returning to, I'm paraphrasing slightly, "how are we supposed to live if they won't let us work?"

this is harassment. it's abusive. and it places a congresswoman's life in danger. i don't care what you think of mcbride herself or trans women in general.

condemn this behavior. tell those we elected that it's time for them to publicly condemn this behavior, too.
someone went up to sarah mcbride in front of the u.s. congress, hurled her deadname at her loudly and called her a pedophile repeatedly, posted video of the exchange to x, and it is now going wildly viral

i will not share the video

but if you’re not speaking up about this, you’re hurting yourself

More important to me than my identity, I am also the Vice President of the NewsGuild of New York, and targeting me with a blatantly retaliatory termination like this feels like an egregious shot against our union and against media workers as a whole.
