“We will deal with it if it happens. All the [Lebanese Shia] villages around us, they are destroyed and basically uninhabitable. If you ask what is our victory, it is that we have been rebuilding for a year and they haven’t put a single pipe back in the ground.”

A reminder that the US currently sanctions over 12,000 people in this exact way. Some are genuinely bad but many are just political opponents or people someone with a lot of money and influence wanted to see punished, even straight-up business rivals. There is no process of appeal or redress.

Rich to condemn the horrors of socialism while we export death to the tune of 320 billion dollars a year.
Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

@budzinski.house.gov is a self proclaimed trade unionist who just joined with Republicans to condemn socialism. In the conflict between capital and the working class, even on an idiotic symbolic gesture like this, congressional democrats side with capital against the working class every time.

To anyone saying the Palestinians are being short sighted or intransigent about this U.N. resolution: learn a little bit about the history of international mandates over Palestine. If there is no room for Palestinian agency than this is just internationalizing the Israeli occupation.

The program of U.S. higher ed in the last years is repression of Pro Palestinian voices, protecting institutional sex pests, capitulation to the Trump administration & selling out their students to AI companies. I'm sure the fall isn't over but its hard to see how they discredit themselves further.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

Could argue the misogyny Summers expressed both publicly while president of Harvard and in emails to Epstein says more about the culture at our most elite institutions than any of the frontpage freakouts over academia in the past few years but hey

Rabbi here.

The West Bank is absolutely occupied, in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, reaffirmed from the Fourth Hague Convention of 1907, Article 42.

It would be helpful if people who didn't know what they were talking about didn't open their uninformed mouths.
Genuinely curious as to why Wu and others who argue along these lines are surprised that pro-Israel politics are on the back-foot in the United States.

The market alone cannot fix the housing crisis cause the housing market relies on homelessness in the same way the labor market relies on unemployment. Structurally, these institutions can not fix the problems we are told they can fix. Same thing w/ the environment -- an ideology of infinite growth

Amazing moment in time right now where people who yelled at us for sticking to genocide as a red line are now also disgusted with Democrats and threatening not to vote for them. So your health insurance becoming more expensive was your red line?

Great article, RIP Teen Vogue.
Incredibly bittersweet to be published in Teen Vogue this weekend after devastating layoffs, including my editor for this piece. It’s about how beauty influencers have fallen into and become part of the alt-right pipeline targeting girls and women

We must note that all the condemnation of Tucker Carlson platforming Nick Fuentes has been about anti-Semitism and there has been an alarming and revealing silence around his anti-Black racism and white supremacy. When the head of the Heritage Foundation apologized, he only cited anti-Semitism.

This has been true in the weaponization of white anxiety against black and brown communities for a long time. We have to insist on a material understanding of the world that rejects politically emotive claims that clearly only exist to distort reality.
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.

Not like mainstream media wasn't dogshit on Gaza beforehand so it's hard to say if this is the Weiss influence but claiming that the ceasefire has held "despite serious challenges" without mentioning that Israel has killed 100 people in multiple strikes as well as striking Lebanon, is telling.

Truly we are in an age where the limits of electoral democracy under capitalism are in such sharp relief. We're never going to vote our way out of climate catastrophe or ending genocide. And these chucklefucks think thats laudable.
