Tom Stoppard and Daniel Woodrell in the same 2 Days is just too much. Brutal loss of two great writers. RIP

Bam Rodriguez should be higher up in people’s P4P lists - his resume at this point is second to none. Has consistently made great fighters and legends look average. Special talent. And seems like a humble, nice dude - rare in elite boxing.

Larry Hama made a boatload of money for Marvel and Hasbro in the ‘80s by turning toy tie-in GI Joe into a smash so they let him do this waaaay more eccentric project with Ron Wagner as a reward. Dystopian ninja commando against an omnipotent tyrant. As awesome as weird-ass 80s mainstream comics get.

Being a fan of the Ireland football team is generally pain and boredom and frustration but then occasionally it's genuine ecstasy and euphoria. Like just 3 minutes ago.

Hey TKO Studios, why can’t I buy this in the UK without having to pay like £30’shipping…?
Got my hands on this and cannot wait to read it. Apparently it was released with absolutely no fanfare, which is a crime, since I've heard that Garth allegedly says it's the best thing he's ever written, and you can see right on the cover that BKV says it's one of the best graphic novels ever…

BLACK DOGS by Ian McEwan. I’d grown up in (and still love) genre fiction & read the usual classics you read at (an Irish) school but at 17, this was the first contemporary novel I’d read about modern ideas, the world I was growing up in…and every sentence was beautiful. Blew my mind.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

If a filmmaker is gonna do one for the money, the high bars are DePalma's The Untouchables and Mission: Impossible. Make it so good that it never occurs to anyone to ask about your motivation for making it. So good that they're just grateful it exists.

STATE OF SIEGE. A gripping thriller for grown-ups but also a provocative examination of why people resist fascism violently and what happens when they do. Beautifully shot, written and acted.

Barney Ronay typically brilliant on moralities and the Premier League. This is basically why I can’t really care about Elite European club football anymore, beyond enjoying some of the - you know - actual sport.
It’s too much to turn a blind eye to this stuff.

Considering the recent wave of nostalgic movie documentaries, it blows my mind that nobody has made one about the Sherman Oaks Galleria, aka The Mall In Every 80s Movie. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Night of the Comet, Commando, Phantom of the Mall, Innerspace, Chopping Mall, Terminator 2 etc...

Took my horror-loving 15 year old to see INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS on a big screen at Home MCR tonight. My first viewing in maybe 20 years. Ageing supremely well. Brilliantly written & directed. Kaufman really was a master. A horror movie for grown-ups: unmatched paranoia in that first act.
