Andreesen said in an interview I heard that there's been "no new information in the Classics since the 1850s" and the amount of stupidity in that is wild. Just wild.

Mark Carney’s budget is blind to the real causes of Canada’s problems
The prime minister's first budget emphasizes infrastructure and resource extraction but fails to leverage our most significant economic drivers.

Ok Bluesky hive mind: trying to find a clip that was played in a class lecture about three years ago. It was a documentary (I think) featuring a rural Manchurian village where they’re doing a lottery. (Felt just like home LOL) @beijingpalmer.bsky.social @bokane.org any ideas?

For all the focus on defence in the budget, neglecting global health (insert something something securitization, hammer and problems looking like nails, yadda yadda) is a bizarre choice given the last couple years have clearly shown the importance of biodefence
Canada budget update: A $2.7bn cut to international assistance over 5 years, or about 10-12% of the budget. Particularly focusing on global health, which is worrying because it's a core Canadian priority

Not sure we need a resurgence of polio on top of everything, but what do I know
What I'm looking for in the Canadian federal budget: Development

- Canada's budget for international stuff is complex. There's the International Assistance Envelope, OECD-measured ODA, plus stuff that falls under Canada's own Act. Plus provincial spending. They all overlap

The seemingly outsized cuts to Global Affairs Canada in Budget 2025 are hard to square with the government’s repeated call to expand and deepen Canada's international partnerships. Reinvesting in the military is welcome – but defence is just one tool of our international policy.

I hear some "let's forget 🇬🇪 and focus on 🇦🇲" from Europeans.

I'm all for Armenia in the EU, but the region won't be free, whole, and at peace with an unstable and Russified Georgia.
And Armenia's connections with the EU will remain fragile, vulnerable to overnight changes.

Mark Carney’s apology to Donald Trump: Far from ‘elbows up,’ it seems Canada has no elbows at all
An Ontario ad on Ronald Reagan’s support of free trade may have been an unnecessary risk. But Mark Carney’s apology to Donald Trump was an unnecessary own-goal.

Something Dems (especially natsecs types) need to get through their thick skulls is the only way we might come back from this internationally is if the accountability for it is swift, broad, and punishing

Politicals, career type, in or out of govt c. 2029, no matter the rank, they all need to fry
European negotiators were personally targeted by their American counterparts during a brutal negotiation over green shipping rules, European Commission officials told POLITICO.

This highly unusual gambit left diplomats shaken after the meeting.
