Imagine if they just subsidized newspapers and magazines the way they’re subsidizing this slop
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.

This is a very good and bold proposal, and one that would collapse under reality if the Lewis team isn't working with Unifor to make this promise. I talked to people on the inside this past weekend about what it would take to do this and the barrier isn't at the plant level, it's in the supply chain
“We need to start proposing solutions that are actually going to make people go ‘that’s right,’” Avi says.

He gives the example of Stellantis moving auto production to the U.S.

“Fine, bye. We’re going to keep that factory and all the machines that we paid for and run it under public ownership.”

⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

During WW2 when Canada's rubber supply was threatened, Canada created a Crown that included leadership from the large petroleum companies to make what became a flagship public petrochemical industry.
At some point also have to ask who does this benefit if Canada helps get this over the line with subsidies or other support? The project is owned by Shell, Mitsubishi, the Korea Gas Corporation, Petronas and PetroChina.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.
