Just remembered the time I interviewed for a job for some engineering association as an office manager and they said the pay was just above minimum wage, like $100/day, and I said 'don't engineers make more than that in an hour' and the HR person said yes so I just left.

Still thinking about that guy on twitter who thinks his pickup line of 'wanna come over and chit chat, cuddle, etc.?' was so good he built a 'business' around it.

If you've pleased yourself with what you have written, you have pleased the harshest critic you will ever have.
Only the author really knows what they wanted to say. Other people might hear the words and react, which is great, but the author must be satisfied or the end result is hollow.

Claim: You can't find love until you learn to love yourself first.
Verdict: FALSE
If not for the love I share with my darling wife of 24.5 years, I would've gone to the doctor not for help with my sciatica, but for medical assistance in dying.
I'm gonna get better for her.

We have a clothing steam cleaner and I can tell you this thing was not designed by anyone who used it or tried to store it. The hanger is a 90 degree angle from the bulky tank and doesn't rotate or collapse. The power button is at the floor in the direction of the steam. Awful design.

I LOVE writing! It's my passion! I'm miserable when I can't write! I'm daunted sometimes, but I always want to write SOMETHING.
I don't know what to tell people who want to have written a book but lack the motivation to do the writing. That bears no resemblance to the career I've made of it.

Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

At the exact moment my Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis was starting to be managed, and the pain dissipating... I get degenerative disk disease and the sciatica is fucking killing me. Had to spend the day in hospital yesterday.
What did I do in a previous life to deserve all this agony?

Another moment to be extremely grateful I have @jmkeep.bsky.social as a partner. Because I can't do anything that requires bending, and I am a tall guy, who can't reach much of anything without bending. I can't even see myself in the mirror without it!

Digital or "AI sovereignty" in this case is just a debate over whether we should let the US dominate us without any restrictions or not. Because the only other country with any meaningful "AI" is China, and let's be real: we're never going to let the Chinese operate here without regulations.
omg.

The more I look into this, the more the entire site seems a fraud. Not only is EVERYTHING done by AI--from fonts to writing--but the only person linked is someone who once ran a NFT scam and has no connection to organized labour.

I’m not bailing out the only people in the world who can actually afford to lose $13 billion. Go fuck yourselves.

OpenAI Is Maneuvering for a Government Bailout - The American Prospect
For artificial intelligence to ever pencil out, some truly enormous revenue streams will be required. And if you need trillions of dollars for data centers forever, there’s only one entity to turn to: Uncle Sam.

Oof. This is one doozy of a read. Those poor people, on top of losing their homes, have to contend with the fact that one of their own likely did it. That the police did nothing to help. And that the same arsonist might do it again as they rebuild.

Update! Wise has closed our USD business account because we're not registered with the Canadian government even though we have an HST Business Registration but that's not enough! I love being an author!
In Newfoundland and Labrador it is not required to register for a partnership license and all taxation is done as self employment, which is great! Until a bank requires I show a corporate profile report or a notice of assessment for our business and I have to explain NL regulations to them.
