Now, in 2026, the Community Board for Police Accountability is seated and beginning its work!

That is not symbolic.

That is structural change.

Their voice matters. Their independence matters. Their integrity matters.

This took years. Today we honor that work.

Onward. ✊🏾

Has anyone here been able to set YouTube to approved content only for a child’s account? All the guides are wrong and my wife is going crazy trying to figure this out. We have an autistic child that needs carefully curated content to stay regulated. Thanks!

The Department of Homeland Security is using administrative subpoenas, a secretive tool issued without a judge's signature, to go after people lawfully reporting ICE activity or criticizing DHS policies.

This is a direct attack on our First Amendment rights and we're fighting back.

The use of administrative subpoenas, which are not subject to judicial oversight, are used to demand a wealth of information from tech companies, including the owners of anonymous online accounts documenting ICE operations.

As the libs are now moving towards the left, we must be patient and welcoming. They will need education because they were not able to believe this was possible before.
At the City Club event last night a room of about 150 people, majority white, majority middle aged, clapped when I said if the police legally can’t protect us against federal agents they shouldn’t get more money.

Some described the movement against police and white supremacy that entered the public eye in May 2020 as a "failure" because it didn't win legislative changes.

But the Twin Cities have been able to resist ICE because of networks that developed then. Changing a broken system takes more than reform.

I talked with three Minneapolis organizers, including Andrew Fahlstrom and Susan Raffo, about community defense in Minneapolis, the social fabric of collective care under federal occupation, and how people around the country should be gearing up for the long struggle ahead. Audio + transcript:

“We are becoming the people that we always knew that we needed to be,” says Minneapolis organizer Andrew Fahlstrom.

Wins are stacking up! Now how will we enforce this, I wonder? How do you stop masked, ID-less officers misconduct without arresting them? Feels like you would need to arrest them.

I didn’t watch the meeting, so this is probably an answered question, but why would city councilors NOT want there to be oversight into processes that are hiding money?
The oversight resolution from me, Councilor Green, and Councilor Avalos passes!

Aye - Avalos, Smith, Pirtle Guiney, Kanal, Green, Morillo, Koyama Lane, Dunphy

Nay - Ryan, Clark, Novick, Zimmerman

Portlanders deserve transparency about public dollars, I hope this is the beginning.
If City Council does not have an accurate an reliable accounting of funds to make decisions for what services we save and cut, we cannot do our jobs.

Council must exercise our oversight powers to prevent this from happening again, and I will strongly support Councilor Green’s oversight resolution.

Hear that mayor Wilson? He needs local law enforcement to refer cases. Seems to me like you have just such a law enforcement apparatus that you could direct to do that? You know, at the time where we need ALL hands on deck to stop the violent invaders from hurting us. Otherwise known as right now.
The DA says his office will collaborate with the state attorney general for any state level investigations into federal LE actions. But adds that the county DA can only investigate cases referred to it by local law enforcement. That hasn't happened so far. (4/X)

Opsec is not just about you. It’s about everyone you organize with. You probably don’t understand the threat level they are under and you could be endangering them a lot more without realizing. Be safe, please. It’s not convenient, but it’s the caring thing to do. We will lose otherwise.

On the other hand, watching Portlanders care for one another in that moment -- like all the nurses who were on site with their union and snapped into action -- was such a reminder of how powerful & wonderful we are together.

We've been through some shit together and know how to protect one another.
I remember how terrifying & painful it was to get tear gassed for the first time and I’m so angry that a bunch of people had to experience that yesterday.

I have seen a lot of horrible shit in my life, but watching a bunch of kids struggle through the pain of being tear gassed is high on the list.

The current Portland City Councilors who are endorsed by the police union are:

Smith (D1), Ryan (D2), Novick (D3), Zimmerman (D4), Clark (D4)

Listing them because the Portland Police Association is making it a fight to have a masking ban (for law enforcement) and a tear gas ban.
Please list the swing vote councillors specifically so people know who to contact. With everything going on in the country right now, it's hard to keep up with who is doing what, especially now that there are so many of you.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.
February 1, 2026 at 1:23 AM
Hey, this is awesome, thanks! Now do the action part of it. Maybe we’ll find one day soon that the Portland police line will finally be facing the hostile invaders of our city rather than its citizens standing up to protect each other?

Eh mayor Wilson? Ted wouldn’t ever do it for us. Will you?

If you are pissed off at how the Feds tear gassed families - tell it to the DA - Nathan Vasquez. He has more options than city council. And get it on public legal record with the Attorney General @agdanrayfield.bsky.social

Is there anyone challenging Tina Kotek in the Oregon gubernatorial primary?

Anyone good?

Make no mistake, we are now seeing white American citizens being murdered by law enforcement because we never truly addressed the way our law enforcement treats Black Americans.

If we do not help each other, it’s only a matter of time before we all lose.

Our liberation is tied together.

CEO of Portland strikes again. I have spent my entire life in tech, and recent years in “big tech”. This pattern is exactly what I’ve seen at these companies: those in power eliminate people with differing views so that they can be unopposed.

Kotek is really going full centrist, and maybe further. This is the guy who led the Oregon Republican walkouts and was ineligible for reelection because of it. A dude clearly willing to throw everyone under the bus if he doesn’t get what he wants. I hate it.
Not something anyone I've talked to was expecting. Former state Sen. Tim Knopp, who led the longest legislative walkout in Oregon history, now works for Gov. Tina Kotek. #orleg #orpol
