Six months ago I published my debut collection of essays, about coming of age in the Y2K era and the disappointment I’ve felt since. Here’s an excerpt at @slate.com about my 5th grade Y2K time capsule letter, my beloved silver inflatable chair, Aaliyah, and getting old slate.com/life/2024/12...

The ACA made my whole self-employed life possible. For almost ten years, I was able to build a career that actually worked for me AND keep receiving necessary care to address the consequences of childhood medical neglect. And I still deserved better. We all do.

When is @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social getting a cat? He’s obviously such a cat dad, going around petting bodega cats when he’s not even on the campaign trail. NYC needs a first kitty!

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.
It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.
If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.

@philipchristman.bsky.social I didn’t know you were a UM guy! I wish I hadn’t missed this. In the future I will wander onto campus to check out more flyers and stay on top of local events.

Lindsey Boylan was the first whistleblower to come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Andrew Cuomo.
Her accusations & those of 12 others were corroborated by the NY AG (and later by DOJ.) Cuomo resigned.
Now he has lost again, and this picture is as unabashed a joy as you'll see.

Last night’s election results made clear that there’s a huge mismatch between the energy of the Democratic base and our tired, aging leadership. Voters are hungry for new candidates who are younger, unapologetic, and can articulate a vision of the future.

i’d also say that the GOP’s obsession with this gives candidates an opportunity to articulate and stand up for their values. “i refuse to make anyone feel like they don’t belong in my [state/city/community]. and i want everyone to live the best life they can achieve [insert policy slogan]”
I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

I don't want to distract from Zohran Mamdani's incredible and historic achievement, but Andrew Cuomo is one of the vilest politicians in either party in recent memory. He deserves humiliation. He deserves to live in infamy and shame. He deserves to live in Florida.

The lesson here is that the president has to expect some serious down ballot effects if he drives the country into a ditch, lights it on fire, pisses on the fire, and then makes an AI video of him flying over the ditch-country and shitting on screaming women and children. An important finding.
