“How dare I be held accountable for my actions and how dare these serfs be upset at me for taking away their constitutional rights?”
Perfect encapsulation of the UCP’s attitude towards Albertans.

Danielle Smith is a corrupt authoritarian. An aspiring Putin acolyte with no respect for liberal democracy. She has to go.
For those keeping score, the premier:
🔵has already started picking her voters (through voter suppression laws).
🔴wants to choose who can run for office (only "serious" candidates qualify).
⚪️now wants to decide which MLAs deserve to be recalled (and which ones get to keep their seats).
With one of her own ministers telling his constituents the UCP will recall recall, Smith was asked today if there were any plans to do just that...

Her answer?

Not yet, but it depends on whether the signatures are successfully collected.

The Alberta Energy Regulator is a joke that, like the UCP government which commands it, is completely captured by the O&G industry. We live in a petrostate run by corrupt ideological radicals.

Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

Zuckerberg should be in The Hague and Facebook should be melted down for parts. The damage they have caused to the world is likely incalculable at this point.
When deception’s more profitable than honesty, users lose.

Internal documents suggest that Meta earns $3.5B(!) every 6 mo. from scam ads, revealing a deeper systemic problem: the economic incentive to tolerate “higher legal risk” content still outweighs any penalty. www.reuters.com/investigatio...

Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

The UCP government created and championed the Citizens Initiative Act as a fundamental part of our democracy - giving citizens the right to launch petitions and recall elected officials.
Now they're walking away from that commitment.

The UCP government is comically corrupt and is again firing the people attempting to held them accountable because it knows it’s supporters, fed a reliable drip of propaganda on social media and who view politics as a team sport, will back them no matter what. A true disgrace.

Populists like Danielle Smith also skip legislative and judicial scrutiny.

Invoking time allocation. And the notwithstanding clause.

Because they can't hack the hard work of liberal democracy.

It's not conservative at all. It's negligently lazy.
Every day, I become more convinced that populists are more lazy than crazy.

Pluralism requires a lot of work. Building consensus, working with divergent interests, working with checks and balances.

Populists skip all that, ginning up fear, fake majorities, and a shallow sense of the public good.

Danielle Smith is using the notwithstanding clause to protect herself while crushing individuals' Charter rights.

That’s not freedom, that’s cowardice.

And Albertans won’t stand for it.

I really hope the ATA defies this illegal, undemocratic, and authoritarian order. It is an attack on the charter rights of all Albertans by a premier who fancies herself a queen #ableg #abpoli
At 2 a.m., the Alberta legislature passed a bill that will force 51,000 teachers back to work, impose a four-year contract and use the notwithstanding clause to stave off a legal challenge and suspend teacher bargaining at the local level. It includes fines for Ts and the ATA if they defy it. #AbLeg

Where's the premier while MLAs rush through an all-night debate on stripping Albertans of their Charter rights?

An airport lounge, waiting for a flight to Saudi Arabia. She didn't even bother to show up for the vote.

I remember when conservatives turfed premiers for this level of hubris.

The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights.

And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it.

Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it.

This is an attack on the citizens of Alberta. An attack on democracy, on the rule of law, on the rights of labour, and on the very people we trust to educate our next generation. danielle smith should resign and stay in the middle eastern dictatorships she so wishes to emulate. #ableg #abpoli

It will be interesting to see how overriding charter rights, forcing a rejected labour deal on workers, and threatening substantial fines will impact Alberta's plan to add and recruit 3,000 new teachers over the next 3 years.

Danielle Smith and the UCP must resign or be forced from office. Today they have spat in the face of every single Albertan, blatantly violating our rights to cover for her own incompetence. This is an attack on the charter and an attack on the democratic and legal rights of every Canadian. #ableg

Coal royalties in 2024/25 were $15.5 million. The government has now paid out more than $200 million in claims to Australian mining companies for bungling this file.
Another Australian coal company has announced that it has reached a settlement ($95 million)with the GoA over its compensation claims due to Alberta's coal policy flip flops.
Once again this info comes to AB taxpayers from the company website.
No disclosure from the GoA.
