We accept the abuse we think we deserve.

Thus, i’m gonna start blocking not people i disagree with, but those who use their reach to gang up on others.

This line is copy-pasted every time “Police said the driver remained on scene and was cooperating with their investigation. They said impairment and speed aren't being considered as factors for the incident.” So what was a factor?
“Toddler dead after pedestrian collision” is some nasty headline work

A person driving a jeep hit and killed a toddler in a stroller in a marked crossing and they are calling it a “pedestrian collision”

“impairment and speed aren't being considered as factors for the incident.”

That is, based on a speed limit determined by factors such as road width and visibility, yet a threat to the lives of pedestrians.

AI does not enhance “efficiency.” AI is a permission structure for a totalizing regime of austerity and labor immiseration.
“We plan to hire an AI rewrite specialist to ingest the reporting by Hannah and others and use AI to convert it into stories.”

The editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said it will use AI to ‘write’ its articles.

My one and only resolution for this year is to spend less than eight hours a day on my phone.

A daily three hours still seems like a lot, but it’s definitely better than spending a third of my life online.

Don’t Calgarians deserve world-class infrastructure just for choosing to live here?

This is a subskeet.

Every time i visit Vancouver i’m reminded that homogeneity isn’t necessary to create a beautiful city.

Buildings old, new, tall and short can sit next to each other harmoniously. Trees and greenery, however, aren’t optional.

I worked at Lake Louise many years ago and would get yelled at for walking through people’s photos on my way to work.

They were everywhere. There was literally no other way to get to my job.

Archives matter - but not to the Carney government. Canada has only ONE federal funding program for community archives, and they just killed it. Gone.

Recently, we sat down to chat about the importance of telling the complex stories of migrant workers. An excerpt of our convo is in my latest piece for @thetyee.ca’s Weekender.

Parenting books are in no shortage. We can easily learn how to support our children’s development, set reasonable expectations.

Books that tackle how to stay healthy as we age, and delay the symptoms of old age also abound.

Do books about aging framed as a terminal condition even exist, though?
