One of the big challenges Ottawa faced every time we had a major power outage was the huge number of medically vulnerable residents dependant on electric devices to live. There still is as far as I know no central registry or organized way to know who might need assistance if it went on too long.
Speaking as someone who stopped breathing last night because the power went out, we are NOT equipped for the disablity impacts of our failing power infrastructure. Great read from @juliametraux.bsky.social

Holiday Public Safety Announcement. Most of the time we put the oven on to heat & not look inside until it dings it's ready to bake. My spouse mentioned seeing a brighter red spot on our lower element when Xmas baking & when cold I saw it was drooping & had split! Check your ovens once in a while!
