Research is incremental because it has to be, that is what it takes to isolate variables and gather strong data. I agree with @partialobserver.bsky.social, it makes me sad more than it makes me angry because good medical and scientific research ultimately makes lives better.
This is so irresponsible and absurd, it should make me angry but mainly I’m sad. All the billions of dollars we spend to make medicine incrementally better, and all the scientists and technicians who devote their lives to the work… 1/
The NIH director told attendees the NIH doesn't do enough innovative research.

“What puts lives at risk is doing research that’s incremental,” Bhattacharya said. “All it does is advance the careers of the researchers that do it. It results in publications that don’t get used and aren’t replicable.”

Major measles outbreaks have repeatedly cropped up in the Southwest this year. Yet at IHS hospitals in the region, agency officials deemed “measles” and “immunizations” a "medium risk" in internal agency emails.

Staffers, including doctors, now need to get approval to use them in public messaging
NEW: Officials at the Indian Health Service have deemed terms like “immunizations” and “vaccines” risky “buzzwords” that require approval to be used in social media posts, pamphlets and presentations for patients.

The latest History of Education Quarterly has an incredible forum addressing the dismantling of the US Department of Education.

I'll post non-paywalled versions of all nine contributions here. Huge thanks to the amazing scholars who participated.

The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

ICE is going to raid mosques and synagogues in NYC as an act of revenge against Mamdani’s election.

This is so deeply sick.
"The attorney in the New York office spoke in depth about the plan being recently updated to include mosques and liberal synagogues in the wake of Zohran Mamdani’s recent win in the New York City mayor’s race."
"Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, ERO, and CBP intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25."

The AI bubble may be about to bust.

Peter Thiel has sold all of his Nvidia stock.

We all need to say this very clearly:

NO BAILOUTS FOR THEFT-TECH!

Expropriate their asses instead.

They stole from all of us and fully plan to burn the planet.

They owe us - not the other way around. 1/3

Reproductive rights was one of the Biden Administration’s signature policies. And Roe v Wade had been law for almost 50 years. The Supreme Court “interfered” with it.
Bessent on tariffs: "This is one of President Trump's signature policies, and traditionally the Supreme Court does not interfere with a president's signature policy."

It's crazy how much the vice president of the united states loves nazis. Nazi chatbots, nazi group texts, nazi twitter accounts. He can't get enough! But it's simply not newsworthy, because making it a story would be biased

Amen.

There is some comfort here in finding aand binding with others who have this experience but also so much sadness that a trauma and re-trauma you wish was unique (and may have thought was at one point, especially if you were a child) is anything but.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

The USDA now threatening grocery stores who offer discounts to SNAP recipients.

People are going hungry. Their benefits were illegally cut off leaving them to starve.

40% of SNAP households have children.

If grocery stores & local business want to step up to help… let them.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
