I'm Zach Wahls. A sixth-generation Iowan and a new generation of Democrat.

And I'm running for U.S. Senate to defeat Joni Ernst.
Operating Engineers are the people who literally build this country — running the heavy equipment, maintaining the machinery, and getting the job done safely and professionally. This campaign is about standing up for working-class families, and I’m proud to have the support of Local 150 & Local 234.

Ashley Hinson has now voted multiple times to keep Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs in place — tariffs that have slammed Iowa farmers, squeezed our ag economy, and raised prices on hardworking families and retirees.

It shouldn’t be hard for Ashley Hinson to condemn Donald Trump’s post depicting the Obama’s as apes. But that would require her to have an ounce of political courage.

On Feb 5th, State Senators Zach Wahls &Tom Townsend filed a bill to protect manufactured home communities in Iowa. In 2018, Zach filed a similar bill, which received unanimous support passing the Iowa Senate. Thanks to Ashley Hinson the bill never made it to the house. #ZachWahls #HarmfulHinson

During my first year in office, out-of-state private equity companies started buying up mobile home communities across Iowa. Rents skyrocketed, and I rallied the Senate to pass a bipartisan bill to protect residents' rights. But then-State Rep. Ashley Hinson killed that bill.

I'm proud to have the backing of over 100 elected officials and community leaders from all backgrounds across Iowa. Our team is growing and we're focused on what matters: lowering costs for families, fighting corruption, and making sure working people can get ahead again.

I’m honored to earn Fred and Charlotte's support as we build the broad coalition it will take to defeat Ashley Hinson and deliver a new generation of leadership that puts Iowa first.

The videos out of Minneapolis today are horrific. ICE is deliberately causing chaos, endangering lives and making our communities less safe.

We need law and order. ICE needs to leave Minnesota. Congress needs to do its job and end this chaos.

Senators introduce state constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United • Iowa Capital Dispatch
The bipartisan proposed constitutional amendment is a "state-based response" to the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Citizens United.

Our bipartisan constitutional amendment to end Citizens United's influence in Iowa is a commonsense step to roll back the corrupting power of dark money in politics.

It’s time to ban corporations from influencing our elections, and I’m proud to co-sponsor this constitutional amendment with Republican State Senator Dave Sires. Sixteen years ago, the Supreme Court passed the Citizens United decision, which has corrupted our politics. It’s time to fight back.

Being a champion for reproductive rights means showing up to every fight. During my 7 years in State Senate I’ve fought back against Republican attacks on women’s rights and cosponsored dozens of bills to protect them.

There are some people in the Democratic Party saying we should weaken our stance on abortion to win elections. I want to make it clear: Iowa women can count on me to fight for their right to make their own healthcare decisions.

Ashley Hinson couldn’t answer some pretty basic questions about her record on Social Security, so I thought I’d help her out (hint: it’s not good)

Joni “we’re all going to die” Ernst just endorsed my opponent. Honestly, not surprised. They share loyalty to the same corporate donors and DC party leaders. Iowans deserve better.

Ashley Hinson is starting 2026 the same way she ended 2025 - by voting to make Iowans’ health care more expensive. Whether it’s cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, or the Affordable Care Act, Ashley Hinson is hellbent on making our lives more expensive.
