A reminder that OpenAI’s chief financial officer, Sarah Friar, met with the Taoiseach in May to push for the use of ChatGPT in schools in Ireland. And many in the government think we can’t face the future without it.
This is the technology our schools are encouraging our children to use.

This day 4 years ago I met an ENT Registrar & Consultant in a quiet outpatient department to be told that my profound sudden hearing loss was most likely permanent. This day 3 years ago I was flying to Berlin with my family to get my cochlear implant activated. What a wild few years noisysilence.ie

This is the first piece we wrote form Chad - it ran while we were still there - it was about the effect of US Aid cuts on a region where people are already experiencing severe hunger. We visited an MSF hospital filled with malnourished babies. It's heartbreaking www.irishtimes.com/world/africa...

Have been thinking a lot about the role of the Irish in Sinners and in Percival Everett’s James & the oppressed becoming the oppressor. Maybe we’ll learn more if the Remmick prequel ever sees light of day 🧛‍♂️🌅😬
Loved @donaldclarke.bsky.social’s chat with Ryan Coogler about Sinners. Bram Stoker is still inspiring hits. All we need now is a big-screen Bram Stoker horror anthology like Lafcadio Hearn’s Kwaidan.

Your regular reminder that two of the finest Irish emigrant songs came from my hometown town of Tuam: Rocky Road to Dublin & N17.

Suspending Doctors Without Borders is definitely a thing healthy countries do
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

Sounds familiar. If the average consumer knew the cost per unit that data centres pay, while everyone gets saddled with surcharges to improve the network, they might be out with pitchforks.
Most read on Tech Policy Press in 2025: "The costs of this brash expansion of data centers for AI are reflected first and foremost in the energy bills of everyday consumers." — Sasha Luccioni and Yacine Jernite.

The next few years will be pivotal for determining the future of AI and its impact on energy grids worldwide, write Sasha Luccioni and Yacine Jernite.
