Happy birthday Bram Stoker! His long lost story sold over 1100 copies last weekend and is doing great work to support the Charlotte Stoker Fund, supporting research on preventable hearing loss in newborns.

Paul Murray. From the shadow of Dracula.
Bram was a Dubliner (moved to London aged~31). With a strong Dublin accent & amid rampant anti-Irish racism, he did OK in London. His great uncle was hanged for leading Irish troops in 1798. Quote from the “Lord Lieutenant” when Stoker started Dracula 👇

The Boy from Macnas’ An Treun (The Corncrake) Halloween Parade in Galway this evening. Inspired by a weird little guy from Bram Stoker’s Gibbet Hill.

Charlie Byrne’s looking well on this grand soft day. Bram Stoker’s #GibbetHill is taking pride of place in the window display. Macnas parade about to start. All proceeds from this book go to the Charlotte Stoker Fund. This fund supports research on preventable hearing loss in vulnerable newborns.

Interval in the show. Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings🤯 In my Tennessee Mountain Home is being cast into my head via my TV streamer. I don’t have to listen to the overwhelming crowd noise & I control the volume. 🙌🙌 #Accessibility win #CochlearImplant #HelpUsHear Thank you @aikenpromotions.bsky.social

#IrishBookWeek: Share an Irish book you read recently📚☘ I’m cheating: This long-lost ghost story from Bram Stoker is published by the Rotunda Foundation to benefit the Charlotte Stoker Fund (supporting hearing loss research). Foreword by Roddy Doyle, original artwork by Paul McKinley, & lots more

Literally out in my anorak trying to get a photo of of one of the last 123 busses. It didn’t stop, so this was the best I could do in the dark. Got the N3 though. 🤓

We didn’t manage to engage with Arena last year as the Rotunda Foundation published this book and the associated artwork by Paul McKinley. It would be great if it could happen around Halloween this year! rotundafoundation.ie/gibbet-hill/

I’m heading to a conference for cochlear implant recipients in Brussels next week. Here’s a noisysilence.ie excerpt on last year’s conference. This year, I’ll be talking about a researcher’s perspective on getting a CI (&, hopefully, preventing people from needing them) ciicanet.org/wp-content/u...
