I think our biggest mistake was in desiring to spare our offspring the misery of our youth. Well-intentioned as it was, it has been a horrible mistake. My paternal ancestors were Volgadeutsche. My mother grew up in Nazi Germany.

Twin Citizens: If you frequent a small, independently owned restaurant that would benefit from a grant for lost business during the siege, let them know about the Salt Cure Fund. It’s a small ($2500-10000) grant, and the deadline to apply is 2/23.

can someone ask any republican who supports the SAVE act why they want to change all the voting rules based on on "fraud" if they obtained their positions of power with all the current regulations in place 🤨

Haven Watch is the group that meets people who are being released from Whipple (usually because they were illegally detained), often without coats or phones or any way to get home.
Haven Watch released an Amazon wish list that will help them continue their work. If you have the ability, please consider gifting one or more of these items:

When I was a kid, Boo Radley was my introduction to how complex notions of kindness could be… the imagined monster, strong and powerful driven by caring and capable of great tenderness.

"Truthiness" was credited to satirist and TV talk-show host Stephen Colbert, who defined it as "truth that comes from the gut, not books." I wonder what word he might coin for AI’s “accuracy.”

I know Saint Paul is one of the greatest places on earth because everytime we do patrol at our neighborhood mosque we are fed and brought tea and we all hug each other and it’s too wholesome to bear. This is how we win

It has been a very dark week for me, but this blaze of light chased the darkness away…

My question about Artificial Intelligence has to do with the difference between intelligence and wisdom. So I asked AI. It said “Intelligence is a comprehensive mental capability involving reasoning, problem-solving, abstract thinking, planning, and learning from experience.”

Senate Democrats can and should filibuster this and everything else by reading every single document in the Epstein files...twice!!
The CRA (founded by Russ Vought) supports forcing a talking filibuster: “If the Republican majority can outlast the Democrat minority speeches (which could take weeks)… then a final vote on the SAVE Act would take place at a simple majority threshold of 51 votes…”
What do they mean by outlast?? 1/

I wonder if a “No Concentration Camps” protest would have a bigger turnout than “No Kings.”
These are concentration camps and its our duty as citizens to ensure these things don't get built.
Breaking news: ICE expects to spend $38.3 billion on its plan to acquire warehouses across the U.S. and retrofit them into immigrant detention centers that can hold tens of thousands of people, according to agency documents.

One of the most formative experiences of my teens. Listening to radio reports as a friend’s father came home from work, we asked if he had heard. He yelled, “They should have killed them all!” After all I’d seen of the civil rights movement and then that, I felt true darkness for the first time.

This is what the DOJ has become. It will take a generation to restore the institutions that this administration has destroyed.
It’s probably just as well Bondi’s DOJ isn’t talking to victims. They’d be so hostile to them that it would re-traumatize them.

Pam Bondi is the product of a diseased system.

A system that is so corrupt and beholden to the wealthy class, it cannot hold them accountable no matter what they do, even if it’s raping little girls on private islands.

This is why the oligarchs got behind Trump. To reside safely above the law.

I’ve always loved puddles.
This one — stretched across a winter lane, holding trees and sky — stopped us in our tracks, together.
They borrow the sky, gather light. A shallow hollow becomes a world.
On slow walks close to home, I’m reminded that attention changes scale — and wonder begins.

A reminder that we can still do wonderful things in troubling times.
THREAD.

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

I've collected his work here...
