this dc situation looks pretty horrible. i wish i had more to say except that autocracy is always mundane and petty and vicious and encourages you to look away and be safe. and you can live quite normally under it until you're a direct target

David Graeber said this in 2012 about protests in New York City.

Though this is increasingly what is happening this week in Los Angeles.

This not being the standard will never make sense to me
Masking should be mandatory in all healthcare settings. Hospitals and doctor’s offices are where most sick people congregate. It’s also the most likely place for more high risk people to be. You shouldn’t have to risk getting sicker or more disabled while trying to get treatment.

Just a friendly reminder that our current Covid vaccines do not meaningfully prevent infection or transmission of Covid. Misleading the public about this fact led to massive distrust about vaccines and record vaccine hesitancy. It's SO crucial to make ppl aware of this fact to fight vax hesitancy

This. Is. Infuriating.

The refusal of treatment centers to require masking around immunocompromised people is absolute medical malpractice and, not to mention, brutally cruel and unethical.

The Trump HHS approach to transgender youth is not "greater emphasis on psychtherapy." It is "ONLY psychotherapy," with the explicit goal of making trans youth no longer transgender.

It IS conversion therapy.

Washington post is an absolute right wing rag at this point.

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare.

URGENT: NY Gov. is pushing harder for mask ban
Take action, see thread

The criminalization of masks is antithetical to public health & community safety. Mask bans disproportionately harm the most marginalized people, especially racially marginalized & disabled people.

Y'all, I am simply begging you to start masking up again. We will have no information on the pandemic currently underway AND no information when/if H5N1 makes the jump.

Don't wait for someone from the government to tell you to start protecting yourself because it will be way too late if they do.
With Trump's withdrawal from the U.N. World Health Organization, the U.S. will likely fall behind on public health innovation and disease prevention, putting the country and the world at greater risk to the next pandemic.
Trump’s Exit From WHO Could Make Next Pandemic More Likely — and More Deadly

fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things:
1) "nah, I'm not doing that"
2) "nah, you're not doing that"

a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one

Went to a clinic today for a routine medical thing and was once again amazed by the number of people who are happy to hang out and just freely breathe in all the air juice inside the germ emporium

When the pollen keeps making your eyes randomly tear, so you have to keep telling people “I’m not crying I’m not crying,” which, of course, definitely makes it seem more like you’re crying 😭

I’m absolutely overwhelmed with character
I have heard it said
(we all have heard it said)
that adversity builds character
but here in the fifth year
of this ongoing pandemic
I truly believe
that I have built enough character.

It’s like that one guy in the bit from “How I Met Your Mother” who always *just* misses the best things happening
probably a dude showing up to stab Cesar like five minutes too late while all the other senators are covered in blood giving each other high fives and fist bumps.

There are two signs
in my veterinarian’s window
the first says
“masks are optional”
the second says
“we apologize for any delays
multiple employees
are currently out sick”
and I can’t help but think
that the first sign
explains the second sign.

Bananas indeed! Humanity has not earned the honor system on matters that affect the rest of the population.
it's absolutely bananas. the only judges in the country who don't have an enforceable judicial code of ethics. there's a code but it's on the honor system so it's more of a guideline
