Important note: this child was detained and murdered in 2023, during the Biden administration. Without losing sight of the current administration being vastly worse, ostentatiously cruel immigration inforcement has been a problem for a long time.
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

Legitimately a feat of carefully calculated writing to issue a Holocaust Remembrance Day statement of this length without mentioning either (1) the people who perpetrated the Holocaust or (2) the people against whom they perpetrated it

Rep. Allard says she's SICK of the blame for DOT for the road deaths. She says it's due to the lack of leadership at the Anchorage Municipality and all the liberals letting people cross wherever they want.

When I teach Vietnam, I explain that opposition to the war really grew in fits and starts. Some big rallies and visible protests, but also a steady stream of celebrities and ordinary folks breaking with their priors and taking a new stand.

This last month, this last week, feels like a real shift.

The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.

We need a thorough, independent investigation into the tragic killing of Alex Pretti, increased Congressional oversight and accountability for ICE, and more funding for local law enforcement in Alaska, where public safety has been underfunded for years.

it ain’t great but its a hell of A lot more than what Sullivan said
Nothing is more important than the safety of our communities – it’s why I stood up to my own party in Congress to support law enforcement and secure our border. What’s happening right now in the Lower 48 does nothing to make us safer here in Alaska.

This is wild
pretty wild statement re: Republican Chris Madel drop from race for MN governor:

"Saying he cannot support the national GOP's 'stated retribution on citizens of our state, nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so."

I said what I said about the silly people who say, "But there has to be a path back for MAGA folk!🤡" There has always been a path back. It's never been an issue at all. Many anti-MAGA folk spent some part of their life on the hateful side.

But the path back involves repair. Undoing harm. Like this.
He spent decades bringing the religious right to power. Now he's marching to undo it.

Rev. Rob Schenck spent decades helping build the Religious Right—commingling church and state to advance conservative causes. Now, he says he must confront the damage he helped cause.

Kevin Levin is a historian of Civil War memory and Southern politics whose work I adore, so I was real sad that he blocked me for responding thus to his insistence that it is not the fault of NPS rangers for removing interp panels about slavery that they were ordered to remove.
