I will watch pretty much anything with Josh Charles. He brings something great to even the smallest roles. It’s just icing that he seems to be such a good guy as well.

The beneficiaries of modernity fucked up mightily by wrongly feeling apologetic about progress as a whole instead of specific fixable problems caused by it.

Fetishized a false idea of "down to earth regular folks" instead of saying "Fuck you, more cuisine options and not dying from typhus is cool."

sliwa correctly understanding that mamdani ran a very traditional campaign and thus surpassing the analytical ability of 80% if people who comment on politics for a living
this is the most incredible interview i’ve ever read. the aei guy tries so hard to get sliwa to trash mamdani and he simply won’t. he also brings up flaco (rip) unprompted.

Jess Nevins doing a public service here, as always.
Okay, might as well get this started.

It's January 1, which means, as I'm sure you all know, that there's a whole new bunch of characters who have entered the public domain. This time around, it's characters created in 1930.

The following is a list of pulp & pulpy characters now in the p.d.

The Shadow is in the public domain as of 2026.

But only as a mysterious narrator. The pulp hero version goes PD next year, and in 2033 he’ll be able to cloud men’s minds so they cannot see him.

My car died at a green light. A car full of teenagers was stuck behind me. Without any words, they all jumped out and helped me push it to the gas station across the intersection. Then they smiled, waved, and ran back to their car and took off.
I would like to hear about a time someone, a stranger even, was very kind to you without any prompting, ulterior motive, or strings attached.

Someone could get elected mayor of LA in a landslide on a “Fix The Damn Streets” platform.
LA has surrendered to the potholes: @michaelschneider.com and I have a piece in the LA Times today about how the city has stopped repaving our streets. (Also thank god for great headline writers at actual newspapers!)
Contributor: You're not imagining it. L.A. has surrendered to the potholes
To avoid a legal obligation to make sidewalks accessible, the city stopped repaving streets in July and doesn't plan to resume.
