She had the most talked-about 3-month contract since CC Sabathia with the Brewers, so that’s something I guess.

One thing I didn’t foresee when I began a career in media in the mid-90s, then started covering the entertainment business a few years later, is that I’d be taking part in writing a collective, years-long, slow motion eulogy for both industries as they had been for decades.

I wrote a bit for McSweeney's about Isaac Chotiner interviewing Santa Claus. Just a little something for the holiday season. Enjoy!

Offer still on the table. I would love to read about something like this (and don’t feel like I have the right historical or political grounding to do it myself).
If someone has a good analysis of the propaganda intent of those televised cabinet meetings (which I don’t remember ever being a thing before), as well as the utter debasement on display from secretaries praising dear leader, I will subscribe to your publication.

It is 5:56 p.m. Central time. The “Mad Men” episode title mixup on HBO Max has been fixed, but the puke hose at the end of “Red in the Face” (s1, ep 7) is still visible.

I have never been the smoothest interviewer, and I sometimes jumble thoughts or set up my questions too much. I’m transcribing something now that, no joke, took me 132 words (ums and sort ofs included) to ask somethng that could’ve been said in 40 or 50. The interviewee got the gist, thankfully.

4 oz extra smoky Scotch
dash of bitters
splash of water

Drink it straight, like a man, while you search for high-priced lawyers.

Netflix’s first-party data has “Stranger Things 5” with the best opening week ever for an English-language show on the service, and second best for all languages behind s2 of “Squid Game.” No shock that it was huge, but still: huge.

Only season two of ‘Squid Game’ has had a better opening in the streamer’s internal measurement.

Not exactly the Muppets version of a Blanc film that Rian Johnson has pushed back on, but I'll take it.

His family’s issues aside, Vance didn’t grow up in some holler with no indoor plumbing. Middletown, Ohio is a small city between Cincinnati and Dayton. The steel plant there was struggling when he was a kid and that was rough, but the town didn’t fall apart. But that’s not as good a story.
unironically i think he wants to impose the conditions of his childhood onto the entire country
JD Vance's ideal America is a place with half the GDP where everyone with potential and options gets the fuck out, a shithole that people from countries with actual dynamism visit to watch chintzy 'traditional' dances before going home.

Nine-year finale high for “Dancing With the Stars” among all viewers, but the stat that sends me is that it’s the first show in *five (5) seasons* to score a 1.0 rating or better among adults 18-49 before streaming or DVR playback.

If there’s a thing we want in this year of our lord 2025, it’s more “Everybody Loves Raymond” content. Here, then, Q&A w/Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal about last night’s reunion special.
