Back on the Percy Jackson beat to discuss a big - and, to my mind, very interesting - deviation from the source material in the season 2 finale with Courtney B. Vance and Tamara Smart (Zeus and Thalia).

In the old days this Variety headline would’ve been something like “‘Abandons’ Abandoned, ‘Staples’ Removed”
‘The Abandons,’ ‘Vince Staples Show’ Canceled at Netflix

If you’re feeling down, may I recommend listening to Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” “Higher Ground” and “Living for the City” back to back. Magic.

My late brother was an Indiana alum; he was there for the 1981 men’s hoops title but the football team was mediocre at best - late Lee Corso era, they were about .500 in his 4 years and went to one bowl game. I am smiling broadly on his behalf today.

Early 2010s, someone imagining “Gilmore Girls” still being on (this was pre-Year in the Life) and a character introducing Rory to Vampire Weekend: “You’d like them - they have a song about punctuation.”
Speak, muses — tell me about a sentence or phrase that you read in someone's ephemeral post on a long-dead online forum but has lived rent-free in your head ever since

“Oh my god what are you doing? … YEAAAAAHHHH!!!!” is the most succinct summary of the Caleb Williams Experience you’re ever likely to get.

Two more pilots got the green light late today, both crime dramas (details in the story). That’s six pilots for NBC this week, with maybe one or two more still to come later.

The great @snoodit.bsky.social beat me to the publish button on this topic today (read her story too: theankler.com/p/tv-in-3-is...) but I swear I was already working on it when she did: NBC is doing pilot season again, at least to a degree.
NBC Is Trying Its Best to Bring Pilot Season Back
The network has handed out a flurry of orders in the past week, the latest being a private eye comedy from ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ alums Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici.

Weird how the two pizza places I usually order from already have the “reorder what you got last time” functionality on their websites/apps, and have for way longer than all this bullshit has been a thing. (Also Papa John’s sucks, order from your local shop whenever possible)

This will be good for a Seth Meyers bit about how they’re stealing Day Drinking from him, and nothing more.
New: CBS News seems to be preparing a new segment called "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil," per sources.

Some staff were only first made aware of it as they encountered CBS testing out set designs of a faux-stocked bar in the newsroom, featuring a large sponsor banner for Jack Daniels.

So far I’ve gotten two Joshes (Holloway and Brolin), Walton Goggins, Daniel Kaluuya, Jon Hamm and Ethan Hawke, who for various reasons seem unlikely gets.

Gimme Omar Epps, Michael Pena, and as @thefienprint.bsky.social already suggested, John Cho. He’s busy, but Tramell Tillman would kick ass.

Who has enough low-key cool to play Jim Rockford in the year of our lord 2026? Is the question I have on my mind here.

Anybody who comes into a ludicrous amount of money should get to talk to her about using it the right way. Win the Powerball? Cool, you get a 2-hour sitdown with MacKenzie Scott. Sign a record-breakng MLB contract? Ms. Scott is here to chat.

The Great Miami, which isn’t much to look at now because after the Great Dayton Flood of 1913, the city built dams and modified the river channel so that it wouldn’t happen again (it hasn’t). Good bike and walk/run paths along the banks though.
My favorite Twitter prompt was "RT this with your home river," so reskeet this with your home river.

Mine is the Patuxent.

Fun thing I learned listening to a recent “Maintenance Phase” is that most people get more than the RDA of protein every day. You’re fine, RFK Jr. is a sociopath freak, eat what you eat.

I thought it was cool of Seth Rogen to thank a bunch of “Studio” crew members by name in his Globes acceptance, so I listed them in my news hit about the show’s win. (also: season 2 starts filming in a week or so)
