Like, this stirkes me as just about the most healthy way possible to look at this sort of stuff.
Mick Herron on adaptations of his work: “I’ve never had a problem with casting because I don’t really have pictures in my head of what the characters might look like. I’m very much a writer who works to the page. I have found that in almost every instance where I’ve been involved in an adaptation, the book that’s being adapted is something that is part of my past, and therefore I don’t feel that possessive about it. I’ve written it and it’s there on the shelf, and that’s my bit done. If the process of adapting it to the screen wreaks changes upon it, then I understand why that has to be done. For the most part, I think, ‘Yeah, this works as television in a way that the book wouldn’t.’ I’ve been perfectly happy with it.

Probably the best reporting on the feds in my neighborhood Sunday came from community paper The Journal & Topics (other local media had decent coverage too). Note the highlighted portion below - they told folks VERY different things about why they were there. www.journal-topics.com/articles/ice...
He noted the absence of local police during the roughly 90-minute event, which he believes indicates it was solely an immigration matter. The helicopter, he said, arrived about 15 minutes after the initial activity at approximately 12:25 p.m. Dawn Ardito, lead safety marshal for the previous day’s No Kings rally in Mount Prospect, said she encountered and filmed the ICE agents in her neighborhood on Sunday. Ardito said that when she questioned the agents, their reason for being there changed repeatedly. She said they initially told her they were looking for a “criminal,” then told a neighbor a “murderer,” and another a “sex offender.” “It was clear they were just using whatever language would justify their presence,” Ardito said, adding that agents “laughed at residents, sneered when people asked questions, and showed open contempt for the public.”

Feds on my block this afternoon, in suburban Chicago. 4-5 SUVs, helicopter overhead. They had CBP markings on their vests and claimed to be looking for an escaped “cartel member” but had time to stop and tell me I was supporting criminals by telling them to go fuck off. 1/
