The people who talk about expanding the tent are never, ever actually expanding the tent. They want to pick up the tent and move it rightwards. If the tent were getting bigger, letting in new people would not require pushing other people out, which the metaphorical expansion somehow always does.
Well um is the tent big enough for us? Oh just big enough for hate mongers? Oh.

Breathlessly waiting for the NYT to do in-depth reporting on the lack of ideological diversity in Wall Street executive boards and Rust Belt diners.
The Times interviews and quotes the university president, who says things like the old New College “was ‘a little Club Med' for people who were all ideologically the same." He is only identified as a former state education commissioner. This leaves out a lot. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-nyt-re...

Someday I’ll be emotionally ready to tell the story of the hour+ I spent on the phone helping my dad update his Max streaming app to HBO Max. He had to get a neighbor who works for NASA over to help out and still it took about 15 minutes after that.
I’m my dad’s smartphone & streaming tech support service, which has taught me valuable lessons about patience & empathy, as well as that tech companies don’t give a shit about older folks. He just wants to connect with family & watch his stories! But to tech bros he’s a negligible financial resource
Hoo boy.

Trying to walk Dad through which apps he doesn't need on his phone is... tiring. 😂

The lecturer in question is our colleague in children’s literature studies. She is a brilliant scholar and from all accounts a gifted teacher.

This ruling is infuriating… at the end of the day, it is our students’ education that will suffer.
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.

A vice chancellor upheld the firing of Melissa McCoul, seen in a viral video being confronted by a student on her gender identity teachings, saying the termination was done with “good cause.”

And OU voided the extensive, thoughtful work the TA did to justify the zero, which was backed by the lead instructor, and gave this student full credit for the work she admitted she didn’t actually do. I’d be catastrophically livid if I were an OU prof.
University fired the transgender TA for giving a zero on an assignment that the student admits to not actually doing.
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

NEW — Based on the aired ‘60 Minutes’ CECOT segment, several of Bari Weiss’s stated reasons to stop the story are inaccurate.

She said the segment did not present the admin’s argument for deporting people to CECOT. It does.

She said the segment did not detail deportee criminal histories. It does.
New: Months before Bari Weiss pulled the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT, her outlet The Free Press was joking about the megaprison Trump has lawlessly deported people to.

"The hottest campaign spot…the new Jeffrey Epstein jet…the place to see and be seen."

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

the shitstorm that’s already brewing because of Bari’s decision to spike this story is going to end up being vastly more damaging to her and to the admin than allowing the story to air would have been

she’s an evil propagandist hack but she is also very bad at doing it in a way that isn’t hamfisted
