Still thinking about this quote.
"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.

Bluesky was literally meant to be a cryptobro social network for grifters, LinkedIn sludge, and libertarians who know way too much about age of consent laws.

Jack Dorsey *left* when instead of weird and off-putting cryptonerds, trans people started hanging out here.
Can you think of examples where people use technologies differently from what the developers intended, whether unintentionally or as an act of resistance?

In retrospect, what do you guys think is the least plausible name of the bro country era. I think my answer is “Cole Swindell” but I am willing to hear arguments for “Brantley Gilbert” and “Jerrod Niemann”

An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Everyone makes fun of the incel "government redistribution of girlfriends" proposal but the state did in fact force women to marry mediocre men by not letting them have a bank account or own property in their name and they don't have to take us that many steps backwards to get there.

and how much labor by so many people towards change is deliberately invisible and never meant to be known

What a waste of time and talent it is to skip these steps. How can you learn from mistakes if you're not working through them?

And that's even before you get to the fact that so-called gen AI products were trained on our plagiarized works.

Every time I see an em dash now, I'm reminded of that.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

RIP Emily Brontë you would’ve been a god-tier shitposter
“I have created these people in my head and I despise every last one of the miserable gremlins” is always a very funny thing when an author pulls it off well
I deeply respect it bc truly, the author loathed every single person in the story

It's unchartered, but we can see the terrain: the territory ahead includes masked secret police taking people to concentration camps but not new vaccines. That's our reward for a system in which fewer than 20 people, all of them deranged and malicious, control over $3 trillion.
The pace at which US wealth concentration is rising is simply staggering

The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory

Who Save America Act could disenfranchise:

-146 million without passport

-69 million married women who took spouse's last name

-21 million without ready access to citizenship docs

-21 million without current drivers license

-Rural voters forced to drive 4.5 hours to show docs at election office
You need to know about the SAVE Act, which recently passed in the House.

So here's a crash course from reporter Ari Berman on how the sweeping voter restriction bill could disenfranchise millions of Americans

We've stalled out at, frankly, The Funniest Number and I can appreciate that.

This will cover roughly 1/3 of the projected cost of my kid's surgery.

Can anyone help bump the amount to $425? To $450?

Small amounts REALLY add up.

Can you help?

Can you share this?
Kids are expensive.

My kid is a luxury good, apparently, extra expensive (and worth it).

We need to pay for some pretty expensive dental work, and I also need expensive glasses, as does my husband.

It’s not that @schumer.senate.gov is awful at the job of opposition leader.

It’s that he’s excellent at the job of stooge paid by the same people as MAGA to keep an actual opposition away from power.
